Thankful for Birdy Watchin'

In honor of the dellllllicious Turkey Day coming up in the US next week, today we are thankful for all the birds we get to ea...,
I MEAN watch, in the state of New Mexico!

Mama thinks these are female Red Winged Black Birds...since a flock of the males hangs out at our bird feeders.

Mama thought this might be an European Starling...but the beak is all wrong, maybe some type of sparrow??

The Red Breasted Robins are making good use of the fountain, unless I am outside...then they hide up there in the trees teeheehee!

I try to remember to keep eyes open and to the skies for fly overs too!

The Sandhill Cranes are making their way back to our area.

I am pretty sure, Mama will be showing us more of these this Winter.

The Canadian Geese are also starting to arrive. Their honking can be heard here every morning as they head toward a nearby pond!

I really am thankful for all the birdies to chas....I MEAN watch...
Really I do! BOL

  1. Rosy, we just love seeing your New Mexico birdies, but I'm afraid that neither Gail not I can help with identification. Even your robins look very different to the ones we have in the UK.
Those photos of the Sandhill Cranes flying over are just magnificent. As is your tongue Rosy!
    Toodle-oo!

  3. We love the birdies too especially the sand hill cranes. They always remind mom of times she spent with gram in Florida. Your hair bow looks so pretty on you, Rosy!

OoOohh, I's a bit jelly at all your birdy viewings, Rosy! I can confirm the female Redwing for you - but that second one... not a Starling as it would defo be at the fatballs and not the seeds. The structure suggests a Grosbeak or Finch, maybe a Cowbird (difficult to size this from the photo) - but that body colouration is rather Starling like, for sure - let's just call it an Anomaly!!! 5. Fine Fowls For nature FRIDAY... so what is the difference in eating a turkey, its a bird, right???? also they bake magpies into a pie, right? Daddy hunted quail and ducks but could not bring them home to eat because I cried if mama cooked them and put them on the table. Sorry but your story stirred up old memories.

  9. You sure have lots of birdies to watch in your yard. We have to say our favorite is the Black Capped Chickadee. Sometimes you can even get them to eat seeds out of your hand.

  10. the other day I saw the sky filled with geese coming back to live here for winter. maybe 250 of them criss crossing the sky. I no longer like them, for the mess they make of sidewalks and disease. I do like birds in general and there are a few left here for winter but I don't know what they are.

  11. Charlee: "We too enjoy eating all the birds. I mean, meeting all the birds."
Java Bean: "When have you two eaten birds? You never go outside."
Chaplin: "Well okay we haven't. But we would like to."
Lulu: "I ate a bird once! It wasn't very filling. But at least I didn't upchuck it in the living room like what happened after the gopher incident."

  14. Angel Lexi caught a baby bird once and Mom chased her all around the outside of the house yelling, "Drop it!" When Angel Lexi finally dropped it, it was dead. Mom said their is a scripture in the bible that says, " Obedience is better than sacrifice," and if Angel Lexi had obeyed, the birdie wouldn't have been sacrificed! XOX Xena, Lucy, Chia and Riley
