Mama here this week, doing a Bilbo in the Blue Bonnets Flower Friday
I have been looking back through our Bilbo Blog History and, once again, I realize how very happy I am I to be documenting the lives of our fur family. Looking back helps me see through the tears, and even give me a smile or two as I remember the events triggering a specific blog post or the feelings behind a picture. If there is one thing I could recommend to any new pet owner, it would be to document your new friend's life, because it will bring you comfort one day.
Below, I have included a link to two of the posts that made me giggle or remember why Bilbo, and the relationship between Bilbo and Dory, have been so special to me.
and, I also want to thank whoever was the mastermind behind "Letters to our Pals" (Murphy and Stanley's Mama NB, I believe) because they really do help express why I am so thankful for each of my "kids"
Here is our letter to Bilbo:
A Letter To Our Oldest Boy
Dear Bilbo,
Thank you for being our first "furkid" and letting us be your furr-ever
home. We feel blessed to have been able to share so much time with you. You beat all the odds when, with your challenges(birth defects), you stuck around more than 10 years more than what the doctors predicted.
Without you, we would have been a pack that overslept, forgot to give
you all cookies, had no idea when we should be sitting on the couch and would
probably never have known when bedtime was! Thank you so much for keeping us
scheduled.
Most of all, thank you for teaching your Daddy and I that
dogs, like humans, need routine in their lives.
We love you Boney man...and always will.
We love you Boney man...and always will.
Love,
Mama and Daddy

The Boyz and I will be taking a week off to adjust and renew, but will return next Flower Friday for our monthly look at Sequoia Gardens.

I miss you already, Bilbo. Huge hugs to your family♥
ReplyDeleteDocumenting and taking photos really does give you a piece of them, even after you've said goodbye. I still have the photos of all my five cats before Miss Oswin and they can still bring a tear. But they also bring back the feelings I had for them. The funny things they did, the way they liked to sleep.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lot of strength in the coming time!
Love,
Mara
We are so very sorry to hear about Bilbo, sending purrs of comfort and paws of sympathy to your pack.
ReplyDeletethat was such a sweet letter full of love...and I'm so glad that you have wonderful photos and memories ... we are so sorry that you had to say farewell to your Bilbo and we will keep him in our hearts as your first furkid and your beloved Boney man...
ReplyDeleteOh Beth....this is just beautiful and you are so right about blogging with our special sweet furbabes. Early in blogging I thing is was Max the Retriver's mom in S. Africa posted a photo of her hugging Max. She suggested that everyone have someone snap a photo of them hugging their pets...because that hug would be precious one day...just like the blogs.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the links the made us smile too. Your first two born could have been twins and their names need to be said at that same time.
Hugs madi and mom
Mom says blogging is the best for so many reasons, but we also enjoy going back over the bizillion photos and old posts. They make us cry sometimes, but they are wonderful memories to have. Run free Dory and Bilbo!

ReplyDeletea pawfect flower friday post... sending ether(((((hugs))))... YAM xx
That is such a great tribute to Bilbo. He was one of our very favorites. But now he can be with Dory. Sending tons of hugs during this hard time for you.
ReplyDeleteI love your letter and I know you will miss your schedule keeper.. we loved you Bilbo, run free with Dory and no pain and eat all the food you want to, not calories in heaven.
ReplyDeleteForever ... with love.
ReplyDeleteI so understand and realize how much writing those memories down help. When we lost Barkley and my brother within a couple of weeks of one another, both with little warning, writing their stories did more to help me heal than anything. Hugs and prayers through this difficult time. The Johnson family (Abby Lab) in Chicago
ReplyDeleteSending you (((hugs))) of comfort. I feel so bad that I didn't know either of your babies well. My heart soooo goes out to you and your family, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet tribute! Bilbo looked fabulous with those long locks and in the blue bonnets. Aww!
ReplyDeleteAfter Mollie passed I went to our old blog and looked at all the adventures we had later in her life and was crying and laughing and thinking how much I loved that sweet girl! I agree documenting adventures and sharing stories helps us remember the little things that we may have forgotten. So glad I rejoined the blogs with Lucy.
We know Bilbo and Dory are just having the time of their lives up at the rainbow bridge. Play on sweet babies!
Katie and Lucy
A beautiful tribute to sweet Bilbo

Thanks for the memories of Bilbo - and Dory. We went back to read the posts you mentioned. :) It is comforting to read old blog posts and remember those that have left us. They are never forgotten, always loved and always missed. Hugs from all of us.
ReplyDeleteAw, that was so sweet. We understand completely. We went through this same process with good ol' Joey dog last year, and wish we had taken more pictures of our Miss Ginger and Old Charisma. Sending our deepest condolences. Chester, Chris, and John
ReplyDeleteThose are such wonderful photos and memories!
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for you.
Cammie!
You are so right, the photos capture the memories that are so comforting as we heal. Bilbo was a very lucky boy to have had his forever home with you.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Lightning and Misty

What a beautiful tribute to your Bilbo. It sounds like you all had a wonderful life together. I agree, when I first started my blog I never thought about how important documenting my life with my pets would end up being. The ability to look back and spark memories we might have forgotten is truly a blessing. ♥

Despite the sorrow and heartache when we part, the joy of the love of an animal makes it worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
