Barty Finds his Smile

a story by Arty

This story is fiction, any similarities between the character and the the author are strictly coinci...
Oh Wait, ...ummmm...never mind...
Once upon a time there was a handsome Shih Tzu pup named Barty who lost his smile due to day after day of dreary gray skies. Then his Daddy told Barty, "Enough is enough little guy, let's go find your smile!" He put Barty in his harness and they plundge(d) into the unknown!

It was pretty dreary out there. You see, where Barty lives it is foggy all August long!

Barty and his Daddy walked for miles and miles searching everywhere for Barty's smile. They even asked the little birdies along the way...but nobody had seen it anywhere!!

It's like it had fallen into a void! What was a boy to do??
Barty's Daddy had an idea,

"Barty, my boy, why don't you concentrate on all the beauty around you? Maybe your smile will find you!"

Barty went out into the gray with a new purpose noticing all the beauty along the way...

Pretty purples...and greens...and so many delicious smells.

...and guess what??
Barty and his smile FOUND EACH OTHER!!

I'm not sure if it was the pretty purples....

...or just the fresh air...

But Barty and his Daddy were relieved Barty's smile decided to come back!!

Now, whenever Barty feels his smile slipping away, he asks his Mama or Daddy to take him out to look at all the beauty in the world!!

The End

Thankful for My Chair on Thursday

This is my favorite chair...it faces out the sliding glass door to my deck. I can sit in it and snooze OR I can gaze out the window and watch birdy TV!

Mama really wants it gone or replaced.
Every time she talks about taking my chair away I give her my "OMD don't do it Mama" look.

Today, I'm thankful this seems to be working, and Mama has seemed to have forgotten about  getting rid of my favorite chair

Leaving me lots of time to practice my "Please don't take it" look in case Mama changes her mind!

Remembering Our Angels

We have been blessed with an fun loving pack, including our Angels. Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we are remembering our special Angels Bilbo and Dory by listing our top five memories of them both!

 Bilbo
5/17/02 - 6/14/17
5. You loved your naps and had naptime down to an art form!
4. Reminding us about bedtime every evening for 15 years by barking between 9 and 9:30. You loved routine and don't worry, Arty has taken up the responsibility of keeping us on task...although he isn't quite as persistent as you were.
3. How you had me(Mama) trained to do do anything you wanted and were proud to be a Mama's Boy
2. The way you looked like a pawfessor in your first Blogville Christmas sweater from Frankie Furter
1.  Three words...Pumpkin Crunchy Face

 Dory
December 26, 2003 - April 9, 2017
5. So much respect for your uncanny Squirrel Hunting Abilities
4. You never met a stranger and went out of your way to be friendly to every human you met!
3. Your willingness to travel with me...our Road Trips will always hold some of my most special and happy memories.
2. Your forgiveness for a certain Halloween when I dressed you as your arch enemy. This remains our most popular posts and still brings giggles, along with a tear or two.
1.Your beautiful and everlasting smiley will always hold the most special place in my heart. I miss you Dory, everyday and was so very lucky to have the chance to be your human.

Mama is also remembering her first adult furry companion, Addie Cat
 May 1987 - July 2005
You can read all about Miss Addie HERE

Squirrel Training101

Do you know that I, Rosy, have never seen a REAL squirrel?? That's right, we don't have squirrels here on the Northy North Coast of California...
The closest I've come to seeing one is having Mama point out some blurry furry thing while we were on one of our road trip (and then telling me I couldn't run after it to investigate!
#meanmama)

With tomorrow being Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, there has been a bunch of reminiscing about how my Angel Sister Dory was the bestest Squirrel hunter in all of Texas(at least in the Austin Area)!

Dory taught Arty and Jakey how to squirrel hunt, so I asked Arty and Jakey if they could teach me using Mr. Sebastian the squirrel! Now Sebastian can't run so Arty asked Mama to throw him so I could practice chasing a squirrel.

Catching wasn't so hard...Arty then told me to shake, shake, shake him...so I practiced that for awhile...

Arty explained that real squirrels will run away and so he added an extra level of difficulty by trying to grab the squirrel and take him away...he also said real squirrels bite and so he tried to bity face me until Mama reminded him that maybe he shouldn't bity me so hard...

After that, Arty said I was ready for the next level...playing squirrel tuggy with Jakey. He said if I could get the squirrel away from Jakey...I would be ready if a squirrel ever came my way!

It was tough, but I finally wrestled the squirrel away from Jakey and Arty says I am now ready to chase squirrels and be a Big Squirrel Hunter just like Angel Dory!!
Noooow...I just have to find a squirrel brave enough to come to my yard and play!!!

MEANWHILE.....

Flowery Friday

Hi everypawdy and welcome to another Flower Friday!
Summer is winding down here on the Northy North California coast, but we still have quite a few flowers hanging around. It has been foggy and cloudy almost everyday in August so far (except for all the Saturdays, thank dog!). I suppose that is why they call it Faugust around here.

We make the most of every time we see the sun though!
Mama stops by the Sequoia Garden whenever she sees a peek of sun to see what's in bloom.

The daisies are doing really well this year...

Here we have some pretty red Early Jessamine

The daylilies are still blooming too!!
(Sorry about the droolies, Mama had Zuke's...and I REALLY wanted one!)

Some pretty yellow and pink daylilies,

 ...and sunny yellow daylilies

Here is one of our favorite orange/red and yellow
daylilies!
 But wait, there's more!

Bright pink and purple fuschias...

 Interesting dahlias

Not to mention Dahlias as big as Mama's hand!

I'll be back in two weeks with LOTS of dahlias for you to see, next week I am letting Arty host Flower Friday to show you his Faugust walkie!

We sure hope you all see some yellow sunshine this weekend!
