Travel Tuesday - It's All About the Journey

This week on Travel Tuesday Mama and I thought we would take you on a day trip about 60 miles north of us to Crescent City. As you might have noticed, we are pretty layed back when it comes to driving. Mama and I like to take our time and concentrate on the journey. We listen to music or maybe an audiobook and while Mama concentrates on the road, I'll watch out for birdies, big trees or even fur-iends in other cars!

How are we suppose to find Elk when you are sleeping, Paulie??

Our first stop up the coast was to search for Elk near Prairie Creek
Redwoods State Park. Paulie and I looked and looked.....
but all we saw were a few crows!!
(Mama actually came back a couple of days later WITHOUT US and saw lots of them!!)

As usual, Mama forgot the cookies in the car....and we all know the motto above, right??

Next stop was  Battery Point Lighthouse!!  This is one of Mama's favorite places (because, you know, Mama is a Lighthouse junkie!). You might recognize this lighthouse.....

...because it is the place where I got to meet Murphy and Stanley in the furs for our Executive Retreat last summer....This picture gets me excited for the B.A.R. next summer!!!

Mama and I  took a long walkie on the beach and then stopped so Mama could look at the ocean and I could keep an eye out for a local branch of the squirrel cartel that is said to be located in this area (click HERE to read more about the squirrels).

After we left the first lighthouse, Mama said she heard there was another lighthouse just a few miles north. So, of course, we went to see if we could find it.  St. George Reef Lighthouse is out in the middle of the ocean, so we weren't sure if we would be able to see it.

Are you SURE there is a lighthouse out there, Mama??

Sure enough, Mama's Lighthouse magnet was working.
Pretty cool, huh?? To have a lighthouse in the ocean?? You can read more about the St. George Reef Lighthouse HERE.
Mama says it has a pretty cool history!

We started back towards home after our lighthouse visits.

We made a stop along the way at a small park in Klamath, CA.
I kept a lookout for small furry animals while Mama took pictures.

Thanks for joining us on our road trip today and always remember that sometimes the journey can be more fun than the destination!!

PS Gail is a bit obsessed with lighthouses too. Apparently when she was a little girl and was asked to write about 'what I want to do when I grow up', when all the other girls were putting things like nurses (this was in the days before everyone wanted to be a 'celebrity') she said she wanted to be a lighthouse keeper!

  9. That looks like a fun trip! Momma is talking about doing some kind of trip with us to start building up for the BAR next summer. We usually just drive to Grandma's house or Auntie's -- both just over an hour away.
