What a wonderful time I had on my birthday road trip! Mama was very impressed with my behavior and said I was a totally different guy while traveling! Lots of smileys were had, I met(and got along with) some new friends and saw LOTS of new and exciting things!
We spent the first night of our road trip in Carmel-by-the-Sea! Carmel is a cozy little "artsy" town filled with a big selection of dog friendly hotels and restaurants! Some say it was settled by artists looking for a place to settle after the Big San Francisco earthquake of 1906.
We stayed in the Carmel Lodge for the night we were there.
They were reasonably priced(for the area) and very dog friendly! It is a older hotel, but clean and comfortable. The service was very friendly and courteous.
We even stayed on the second floor and even had our own balcony!! The
only downside was they had no elevator. It didn't bother me tho, and Mama
said it was good exercise carrying the suitcases up and down the stairs.
The Carmel Lodge is also very centrally located. Mama and I took a few nice walks while we were there and we didn't need to get in the car at all!
Because the town was so very dog friendly, I stopped and read lots of doggy reviews of the local establishments!
The Cypress Inn was especially recommended. I'll be back on Thursday to tell you more about our visit there!
We found most of the establishments had beautiful gardens with lots of flowers blooming!! Mama was as in awe of all the beautiful colors as I was by all the different smells!

Even the local gas station had a sign with Wisteria hanging down around it making it look very quaint!
Mama says the architecture and decor in Carmel-by-the-Sea remind her of a combination of a few German and Bavarian villages she visited went she vacationed in Germany many years ago.

Mama loved the "old town style" of Carmel. There were many wrought iron gates like this one lining the streets.
The store signs were so creative, Mama really likes this one!
All the walking was exhausting. Mama and I both hit the hay early
One of the nicest things about the Carmel Lodge, was the continental breakfast delivered to your room included with your stay!
We brought it out on the balcony to eat it al fresco.
What do we have Mama?? A Croissant...some coffee...some orange juice and a bowl of mixed fruit with....
BOO-BERRIES!!! It was so nice to sit outside and listen to the birdies while we ate.
I also met my brother from another mother while in Carmel! Stay tune for more on my meeting on Thursday!
We are joining our friends at Comedy Plus for the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop this week!
