Howdy effuryone! Welcome to Nature Friday, where we can meet some new
friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like in your corner of Blogville. This week was another chilly one around the US and Canada. It looks like those across the pond are also getting some chilly temperatures and in some cases, even some snow!
This week we are going to show you some of the feathered friends that have been stopping by during this frosty Winter,
With the temps getting colder than cold, Mama is making sure there is always food for the birds and the fountain is flowing and free of ice so the birds have some place to get a drink of water!
This Northern Flicker loves to sit on the fountain and enjoy the crisp cool water!
Mama loves his red cheeks and we really like his speckled body!
This Scrub Jay likes to sit on the tippy top of the tree and sing at the top of his lungs all morning long.
We think he can get a little annoying, but Mama enjoys his chirps and squeaks.
These House Finches enjoy the food we leave him and visits us all year long both at the feeders and the water fountain.
We understand why the birdies like the backyard but we've tasted their bird seed and aren't sure why they like to eat so much of it!
Anyway, we digress, back to the birdies.
Mama says she still isn't sure what kind of bird this is.
She is leaning toward a female or juvenile Red Wing Blackbird...can you see the little bit of red on her(or his) wing?
At our house, a visit from the US Red Breasted Robin doesn't really mean Spring is near, it means Winter has arrived. We don't see these guys in the heat of the Summer, they usually show up in the late Fall and stay until early Spring.
We'll wrapped things up with this cute little Goldfinch on the fountain. Mama gives them a bunch of thistle seed and a few suet blocks. Believe it or not, they all take daily baths, even when the temps fall below freezing!
BRRRRRR!
We hoped you enjoyed a look at some of our Winter birdies.
Thanks for stopping by, and make sure to visit next Friday for
YAM Aunty's Final Friday (Nature) Feature!
Show
us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of
your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey!

Hi Rosy and Sunny,
ReplyDeleteGail and I thoroughly enjoyed your Mama's photos of these colourful and exotic (to us in Scotland) winter birdies. You two are looking very lovely too, and Rosy has some excellent winter headwear, although one wonders why she seems to have removed it for that final photo...
Toodle-oo!
Nobby.
that was great to go birdwatching with you... we hope all will stay warm and comfy...
ReplyDeleteWe love the birdies and feed them in the winter too and we have to agree with you - the food doesn't look or taste too great to me either!
ReplyDeleteThe bird photos look great with the blue sky background. The robins from around here probably are at your house for the winter as we don't have robins in the winter. Have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeletewe did enjoy your birds and also very much liked viewing the Snow Bunnies that watch those birds. The little bird at the tip top of the tree might be getting closer to the sun to get warm. brrr on bathing in the birdbath, unless of course your mama has heated it. I know someone who heats the fountain for the birds.
ReplyDeletePretty little tweeters and pretty little puppers ... bird watching is what I miss most about living in the city ...
ReplyDeleteOh we love all those birdies! We get flickers a lot in our yard but haven't seen it on the bird bath. Thanks for the idea of a nice rocky waterfall source.
ReplyDeleteYou sure have lots of pretty birds around your home. Having a fountain that you can keep running in the cold weather sure helps to draw them in.
ReplyDeleteOona: "Mmm, birdsicles!"
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Ayyy, I don't think that—"
Oona: "NOW IN CHICKEN FLAVOR!!!"
First of all Pardon any typos I've just returned from the eye doc. My eyes were dilated for the exam and are still returning to normal. I do so love the Northern Flicker they are frequent visitors to my suet cake. I love seeing them and the would come in the summer but suet melts in 87 seconds here in Dixie's summers. I hear you on the tasts of the seeds maybe that is what it means to eat like a bird. BOL MOL LOL
ReplyDeleteHugs Aunty C
Wonderful bird photos but your doggies are my favorite ~ so adorable ~ hugs,
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

So many birds captured in a week. I love the Flicker; such a pretty bird. Love your head gear Rosie - at first i thought it was an aviators helmet with the goggles pushed up on top.
ReplyDeleteSo THAT's where our robin went! XOX Xena and my gang
ReplyDeleteThose birds are beautiful, Layla is jealous as all we see are seagulls when we go to the park on the bay but although cold it is worth going there, stay warm with a woof from Layla
ReplyDeleteLady loves all your birds. She has been thinking a lot about you all as a colleague is in Zion and may be going to Bryce. Hugs. Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteHello hello! It's wonderful to see you again. Sorry it's been so long. We loved seeing your beautiful birdies. But we especially loved seeing you pups in your cute outfits!
