This year, we are celebrating November with gratitude. It's also Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and maybe share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. Today we are thankful for front yard nature finds!
This week, during my regular house guarding and barking duties, I noticed a little spec of red in the yellow rose bush in the front yard....
...and then I saw him, Woody Woodpecker!
It seems half of our rose bush is dying off, and Woody was eating the buggies underneath the bark!
I watched him work and was amazed at how thorough we was!
Mama says he is a Ladder Backed Woodpecker, and he is pretty common in New Mexico. In fact, we have seen them at our backyard bird feeders AND at our hummingbird feeders (during the Summer months).
Mama and I really like his little red cap.
I know you'll be amazed, but Mama made a relaxing little video of Woody doing his woodpecker thing.
As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE
Woodpeckers are cool, but they are pretty small and sure do peck a lot...I think bunnies might be tastier and more fun to chase, don't you??
Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE to go to our Hoppity Page.
Hi Sunny,
ReplyDeleteLittle Woody Woodpecker is so smart with his fine markings and splendid red cap. We think you are right to leave him alone and focus on chasing the bunnies.
Toodle-oo!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful video to open my Friday with! I'm with you, Sunny, I could watch this all day!!! Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx
yes they are super cool! and they are big berds... at least in the US... ours are a little smaller but super loud...
ReplyDeleteWe love the beautiful woodpeckers and we always hear them pecking away before we see them.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the woodpecker. We don't usually see them but we hear them pecking away. It can be quite loud when they are working.
ReplyDeleteDear Sunny, we enjoyed seeing you looking out your Window on The World and you look just like my mama looks when she is watching the big machines pick up tree trunks. we have a woodpecker that resembles yours a lot, and he liked to find a metal gutter and peck like crazy on itm making a machine gun sound. he also sits in the tree out our window doing the same thing yours is doing in the video. Don't tell my mama, but you look cuter watching out the window than she does. ha ha, love Beau
ReplyDeleteThat was a great video of your woodpecker. We have lots of different types of woodpeckers in our yard and always like watching them do their work.
ReplyDeleteOMDs the Ladder Back Wood(y)Pecker is a new species to me THANK you for spying it out our window. He sure does have a very long beak for the size of his body. Sometimes on my EMW's I hear what sounds like a jack hammer. Then all of a sudden I see a Red bellied woody or a Flicker.
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy weekend

You sure have some wonderful and fun viewing sweet one and that woodpecker sure is busy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find. You are a fist rate bird watcher
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Ayyy, I have a Woody Woodpecker toy! I used to squeeze him and he would laugh and laugh and laugh! But these days he is just kind of quiet. Maybe I need to squeeze harder ..."
ReplyDeleteWe had a woodpecker which would peck on the wood burning stove pipe to make the bugs run out from under the flashing, and it would always start very early in the morning while my Sweetie was asleep and wake him and he'd be so angry! They are fascinating creatures, though.
