Thankful Thursday - Happy Landings

During the Balloon Fiesta this year, one of the coolest balloons was a cluster of helium balloons designed by balloon pilot, Jonathon Trappe.

Trappe wanted to recreate the type of balloon cluster that they
had in the 2009 Pixar movie, Up.

Volunteers started showing up at 1:30am the night before to fill the 94 helium balloons needed for the 9am take off.

Because the balloons were already blown up, they controlled how high they went by throwing out sandbags, and when they were ready to land they had to pop balloons!  Click the picture above to see a short video of ballon cluster.

Mama was a little worried about the balloon landing safely, and was so thankful to hear they landed safely (the next morning) south of Show Low, Arizona. They sure went a long way, Show Low is over 200 miles southwest of Albuquerque!

Here is a short video of the balloons in flight:

What a fun idea and we are glad it went well but we would not go up in something flying because of helium balloons. It looks super cool but how scary!
