The Cat that Came Before...

Addie - May 1987 - July 2005
In the spring of 1987 a litter of kittens was found abandoned by their mother in the coastal town of Sea Bright, NJ . The kittens were only 3 weeks old, had not yet been weaned and needed homes fast!! I was lucky enough to adopt one of these kittens. I bottle fed her, then weaned her to kitty "mush" food. She was a cute tortoise shell calico that would climb up my pants leg (inside OR out) and sleep next to me on my pillow! To the day she went over the rainbow bridge, she kneaded bread and nursed on my shirt sleeve.
This kitten grew to be a wonderful cat, and my best friend. She saw me through a very trying and abusive relationship, moved cross country from NJ to Texas in the front seat of my Neon sneeking into various hotels along the way. She accepted her new stepdad (after a trial period of course) and tolerated the addition of Bilbo (after a year of hibernating). By the time Dory came around, she even liked dogs...ok, maybe tolerated them. We had some rough and tumble times, but she always had cat food and cat litter from me, and I always had love and companionship from her.
In the Summer of 2005, at the age of 18, Addie succumbed to a sinus tumor, I held her and murmered sweet nothings into her ear and silently cried as she crossed over... I will always miss her.

Hi Beth....oh what a touching story about Addie...she was your soul mate, protector and best friend. 18 years of loving her was all she ever wanted from you. Addie was a beautiful Calico...Dory probably knows this but Addie paved the way for her and Bilbro.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThat was a wonderful tribute to your cat Addie on World Cat Day. Mom now wishes she had thought to do the same for her kitties, Chase and London.
Wags & wiggles,

What a wonderful story about a magnificent cat on World Cat Day. She obviously loved you and vice-versa. And she seems as if she was pretty good about accepting new "siblings" and family members - that's four stars for kitties! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to come and sniff out your blog! I look forward to coming over to visit!

That is such a great story. Thanks for sharing that with us. Addie was a lovely cat and I know she was very well loved. I am no stranger to the devastating loss of a beloved pet and understand how difficult it is to deal with and talk about, even years later. RIP Sweet Addie.
