Today, we are thankful for backyard walkabout. The Australian definition of a walk about is
"a journey on foot undertaken by an Australian Aboriginal in order to live in the traditional manner"
This sounds about right, Rosy and I like to walk around our backyard to connect with our "inner dog". This may or may not include snacking on bunny poop.....
Barking at pretty birds.....
Hunting bunnies in the scary Russian Sage....
Chasing pretty birds...
...and, let's not forget, Rosy's never ending hunt for the elusive...
Road Runner!!!
Unlike the Aboriginal Australians though, we can come into the nice air-conditioned house for a water and cookie break when needed.
Backyard Walkabouts are definitely on our Backyard Thankfuls list!
From the Pawrents:
We will be out of the Office until 7/11 as we travel for a family reunion. The girls will be home with their new doggy nanny B, being spoiled, chasing bunnies and hopefully NOT eating bunny poop.
Through the magic of the interwebs, Nature Friday won't be interrupted and will be scheduled for tomorrow, and next Friday(7/7).
We hope you all have a great week!
(and a Happy and quiet 4th of July for those in the USA)
This coming weekend is not only National Alien Day, but it's also the annual UFO Festival down in Roswell, New Mexico ! Unfortunately, we won't be attending. It seems Mama and Daddy think going to play with Daddy's family in Minnesota is more important.
Would anyone like a glass of Rose for today's fluttery Nature Friday??
Alcohol free, of course! BOL!
Lately, Mama has been making weekly morning walking trips to the
Botanic Garden. There are soooooo many flowers, plus it gets Mama out of the house so we can nap in peace!
Anyways, at the beginning of June, the flutterby house opened! It's not real full yet, but Mama did see some fun little flutterbies! Above are baby Monarch Butterflies. Aren't they adorable little caterpillars??
Here is one all grown up!!
Mama never gets tired of the orange, black and white wings...
...and no two ever look the same!
There were quite a few moths in the butterfly house this visit.
Mama found this one sitting on a wilty yellow flower. It kinda looks like it has eyes on his wings, don't you think??
Here is an interesting little guy....
See the little circle of fibers underneath his chin...I wonder what it does with that, collect more pollen maybe?
Mama also made a video that has some Monarch's and a few other flutterbies!
You can also watch it on our YouTube Channel HERE!
Here is some advice to make sure we all keep all pretty little flutterbies thriving!
Thank you for joining us for a look at some flutterbies this week, they sure are colorful, do you see them flying around in your backyard??
We hope all our friends get out to play in Nature this weekend!!
We are traveling today, but will do our best to visit everybody!

This week, we want to say how thankful we are for the backyard Roadrunners.
Unfortunately, Mama and I are thankful for different reasons....
Mama is thankful because:
"WOW, look at that cool bird I am so lucky to live somewhere where I can see a Roadrunner!"
I am thankful because it makes me up my hunting skills!
These silly birds like to hide behind trees and sneak down the fence line in search of their lunch.
One day, I hope to be able to sneak up and catch one!
Mama says she is going to sit me down to watch some olden day cartoons that will show me that catching Roadrunners
is pretty much impossible. She also says, in the meantime, I should stay away from
all boxes with ACME written on the side of them.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who lived in a beautiful palace in New Mexico. One day, in her backyard, she met Prince Freddy the frog.
Freddy promised her a wonderful kingdom full of lily pads and flowers if only Rosy would give him a kiss!
Rosy was a bit reluctant, mostly because this kingdom was filled with water, which she disliked greatly. Not only that, but Freddy had a big croaky family!
But the kingdom was filled with beautimous flowers and big enough lily pads for the Princess to sit upon.
Princess Rosy, although tempted, wasn't convinced....
Although Freddy tempted her with pretty pink lotus flowers...
....and promises of big juicy flies...
Rosy didn't think she could live in a kingdom with out a big bed to sleep in.
So she waved goodbye to Freddy and wished him well in his land of lily pads and flowers...
...and she stayed in her own Palace where she could sleep in big beds and go on walks with her very own Prince Daddy!
