The Scenic Side of Las Vegas

Learning about the history "the other Las Vegas" sure was fun, but Las Vegas has a natural side too.  This Las Vegas is at the eastern side of the Santa Fe Mountains, and the southern edge of the Rocky Mountains.

One morning, after our walk, the pawrents took a scenic ride took see some of the more natural sights in LV.
(From the pawrents: The temperatures were in the 90s during our stay making outings rough for the girls. Walks were done in the early mornings and early evenings)

Right outside of town, the rocks start sprouting up....

...and the trees start getting thicker!

Pretty nice, right?? The pawrents say, that's nothing compared  to the Rocky Mountains we're going to see in a couple of weeks.

The pawrents also found a place to swim where the water is hot...
Silly pawrents...it's 95F outside, who cares about hot water!

Mama didn't think strangers with their bathings suits on would appreciate pictures...but here is one of the small "baths" that was part of the Hot Springs. Mama stuck her toes in and said the was crazy hot and turned her toes pink!

Let's close today's post with a look at the "windmill" next to our campsite.

Did you hear, Rosy? We are taking a small trip on Sunday to see how CeCe does towing JeeJee(Mama's Jeep) on Sunday night! We are going to get to stay at a local RV park right by a real casino!

We are wishing everyone a fun long Labor Day Weekend in the US...and a Pawesome weekend
filled with nature where ever you may be!

Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE  to go to our Hoppity Page.

Thankful Travel Thursday - More on Las Vegas

Today we have some more fun Las Vegas history to share with you all. Have we mentioned how thankful we are to be able to visit these fun and interesting places?

On July 4th in 1879, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroads arrived in Las Vegas, NM from the north. This helped Las Vegas land on the map and become one of the bigeest rail towns between Missouri and San Francisco, CA. But, with a bigger population came more crime...

The "Dodge City Gang",  a so called band of peace officers,  was said to have lived in, and run, Las Vegas for a bit around 1880.  During this era, the east side of town became "virtually lawless"

This attracted other notorious names, among those who visited or called Las Vegas their home were

Now they can add the most notorious of all,
The LLB Gang!
BOL!

Who would have thought this quiet little town was once filled with
western movie bad guys!!

Thank you for tagging along with us today...
Join us tomorrow for a look around the Las Vegas Journey KOA,
PLUS

TT - Las Vegas, NM Part 1

Welcome to our Las Vegas Tour!! If you look over there...you'll see the Bellagi....Wait a minute! Hey Rosy, where is the Bellagio, the Las Vegas Strip..the Neon?!?!?!

Well Sunny, this isn't  THAT Las Vegas, the one in Nevada. This is the "other" Las Vegas....Las Vegas, NEW MEXICO!

The town was known initially as Los Delores de Las Vegas Grandes
or Our Lady of Sorrows on the Great Meadows and was settled as early as the 1600s.

The town of Las Vegas was officially established in 1835 by a group of settlers who received a grant from the Mexican government.

The town is laid out in traditional Spanish Colonial Style. There is a central plaza, surrounded by buildings. These buildings would help protect the people in case of an enemy attack.

Yep, buildings everywhere Rosy...I know I feel safe, plus Daddy is close..
Oh Sunny, this was in the ancient times...even BEFORE Daddy was born!

Now...where was I...
In 1846, Stephen W. Kearny delivered a speech claiming New Mexico for the United States. The Pueblo people, along with Hispanos, challenged this claim a year later in the Battle of Las Vegas. In the end though, in 1912, New Mexico became the 47th of the United States.

Mama says not to get her started on this....so we won't.

Thank you for joining us for some history of Las Vegas, NV.
Join us Thursday to hear about the Las Vegas Railroad and some of the
people it attracted!

Trees all around us, the sun going down,
Is that a bunny I see, hmm is he brown?

A birdy is tweeting a pretty song,
I could sit here all evening long.
Just relaxing and seeing all nature's views.
I just love the outdoors,
What about you?

She is the place where we can listen to the pawrents plan our day...

....or relax in between adventures.

She is the place where we can bond as a family...

and last, but not least

She can take us all over the country,  making lots of memories along the way!

Dueling Wings on Wednesday

Today, let's take a look at the "not so nice" side of our little hummingbird friends...

"GET OFF MY FEEDER!!"

Silly hummers think every feeder is theirs...until they don't BOL!
Sometimes they can be found sharing feeders like they are the best of friends and then
POW! They want the feeders to themselves....

Here is a video of some of the silly hummer duels we've seen so far this season....

You can also watch it on our YouTube Channel HERE

Sometimes you have to wonder just what goes on in their
little hummer minds.

What do you all think??
Do hummers have an agenda....or are they just silly?
