Remy the Rufous

Today we want to introduce you to our friend Remy!
Remy is passing through the area from his breeding grounds up as far north as Alaska back to his home in Mexico!

Remy is a Rufous Hummingbird and although he is our friend, the Rufus Hummingbird is not very friendly to the rest of the hummingbird community. The Rufous maybe one of the smallest hummingbirds, but are also known to be the most aggressive when defending their territory (and feeders).

He might be feisty, but he sure is pretty!!

Mama really likes him because of his beautiful orange coloring
and shiny yellow/orange  neck!

Here is a short video of Remy getting a drink of sugar water. If you look carefully, you can see his neck shining!

You can also watch it HERE, on our YouTube Channel.

I have to say, Remy isn't as silly as some of the birdies we've met!

Fly Back Soon Remy!

  5. Lulu: "It's been our experience that most hummingbirds are nasty and territorial with each other! Our Dada calls them the cichlids of the bird world ― pretty, but mean."
