Backyard Thankfuls - Clouds

 

 

We may be experiencing some really hot temperatures here in New Mexico this month(100+F/38+C), but did you know, it's also the rainiest time of the year here too? The locals call it "Monsoon Season", we call it "Pretty Cloud Season." 

 

Just look at all the beautiful cloud scenes we have viewed in our

backyard: 

 

  

 The clouds in the morning give us some lovely sunrises.

 

 

But the clouds in the evening during Monsoon Season are epic!

Look at all the layers of color in the photo above.

The pinks, purples, yellows, blues all look wonderful with the greens of the trees!

 

 

 

Sometimes we see the moon rising through the clouds.

 

 

 When a storm moves through close to sunset, the skies put on a show better than any fireworks!

 

 

 The prettiest of all backyard views is always

a rainbow after the rain has almost stopped!

 

 

 

We are so very thankful to have such beautiful clouds this time of year!!

Thankful for Weekend Walkabouts

Today, we are thankful for backyard walkabout. The Australian definition of a walk about is

"a journey on foot undertaken by an Australian Aboriginal in order to live in the traditional manner"

This sounds about right, Rosy and I like to walk around our backyard to connect with our "inner dog". This may or may not include snacking on bunny poop..... 

Barking at pretty birds.....

Hunting bunnies in the scary Russian Sage....

Chasing pretty birds...

...and, let's not forget, Rosy's never ending hunt for the elusive...

Road Runner!!!

Unlike the Aboriginal Australians though, we can come into the nice air-conditioned house for a water and cookie break when needed.

Backyard Walkabouts are definitely on our Backyard Thankfuls list!

From the Pawrents:

    We will be out of the Office until 7/11 as we travel for a family reunion. The girls will be home with their new doggy nanny B, being spoiled, chasing bunnies and hopefully NOT eating bunny poop. 

   Through the magic of the interwebs, Nature Friday won't be interrupted and will be scheduled for tomorrow, and next Friday(7/7).

Backyard Thankfuls - Blooming Yuccas

 

 

This week in our backyard, we want to say how thankful we are for our  backyard Yuccas!

Our Soapweed Yucca had a wonderful group of blooms this year!

The petals are so very delicate and the birds really like 

to pick at the seeds in the center!

Our Texas Yucca is also thriving this year!

We love the pop of yellow inside the little pink blooms.

The hummingbirds also enjoy them and can be found perching on the flower stems!

We are so thankful our Yuccas are still thriving, not just for making our backyard beautiful but also giving the birdies

a place to rest and grab a snack!

June Thankfuls in the Backyard

Happy June!! We have had some gorgeous, bright sunny weather here in New Mexico for the past week and have been having so much fun in our backyard. This made us think....We are thankful for so many things in our backyard, maybe we should spend a few Thursdays showing you all some of them!

Today, we want to say how thankful we are for the backyard fountain! Even after freezing up during the freezy cold temperatures this past Winter, it is back to being a beautiful place for photo shoots

AND....

A birdy water cooler and public pool!

Birdies from far and wide come to get a cool sip of water during the warm dry days.

They especially enjoy...

Mondays and Wednesdays when we throw in a free shower (the sprinklers)!!

Through the magic of Mama's new trail camera, today we have a short movie featuring Henry the House Wren taking a nap

(look for more birdy clips on Wednesdays this Summer):
