From the Mama:
I just hate when people assume that a big dog breed is naturally more aggressive than a smaller one. Pits, Bullies, Rotties, Dobies and more have all gotten a bad rap. I so believe that the human is responsible for the way a dog turns out. Whether it is inbreeding, poor training or neglect, ultimately we must take responsibility for our dogs actions. I have seen my 7 pound Llasa scare the padoodle out of a 150 lb Rottie, when the Rot could have finished off Bilbo in 2 bites!
Cesar Milan (The Dog Whisperer) on aggression and breeds:
I deal with a lot of red zone cases, and I often hear people incorrectly blaming the breed. Any breed can cause trouble. The difference between an aggressive Chihuahua and an aggressive pit bull is that the bigger breeds can cause proportionately bigger damage.
This week when you see a bigger breed, try not to assume that he will be aggressive. Always inquire whether he is okay to love on, and if so, give him a little scritch behind the ear!
Now back to Dory....
At the end of July my friend Tank was MUGGED by a dog that had poorly trained humans!!
Click below to read Tank's scary story!
TankMugged
Tank's poor adorable ear was nearly torn from his handsome head!!
Luckily he survived this incident with no lasting after effects!! Sometimes I wish there was a way to make sure that humans went to a training school BEFORE they are allowed to keep furry friends.
Tank has chosen Animal Haven to have Mommy send 20 green papers to in his name. I will get Mommy up to her playroom on Sunday to make sure she gets the green papers in a card !!
Happy VPKC Friday to All!!
Thank you so much to you and your mommy for your wisdom and understanding - us bullies are loves not fighters - its the humans who train us to be mean
ReplyDeleteWoodrow - Sweetie - MJ
Mom totally agrees - it's definitely the humans, not the dogs. Any dog can be a sweetheart, or aggressive, depending on how his/her human is. (And Mom is laughing - she and Dad had a miniature poodle who is no longer with us, who could be WAY more aggressive than dogs 10 times his size!) Good work, Vampire Puppies!!!

Oh Dory, please read my blog tomorrow. I had a very exciting adventure!!
ReplyDelete- Jack
We totally agree. Dynamite comes in all sizes. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLots of treats,
Tinkerbell, Oscar and Tucker
I agree people are just irresponsible. What a little dog does is cute...A big dog does the exact same thing its not so cute. Unfortunaltly the big dogs have to pay the price for their uncaring owners!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dory for helping the homeless pups.
-Mollie and Bobo
The meanest dog I ever met weighed 12 lbs. The biggest baby I met was a Dobbie. It's too bad that people make assumptions about certain breeds.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
Our mum had a German Shepherd dog many years ago now - people often assumed that she would be aggressive. She did go to dog training with our human brother and they won lots of prizes.
ReplyDeleteBailey can be a wee nippy sweetie at times - although at others is a pussy cat!
She is much more easily tolerated by other humans - even when she is bad. Mum often thinks that Petra, her GSD, would never have got away with such behaviour!!!
Your mom is right to point out this dog breed discrimination!!!
We were very sorry to hear about poor Tank.
love

Hi Dory and Beth!!! Oh boy do we agree with you....about animals and their owners!!! It is usually the owner who needs educating....Thanks for the post to remind everyone...
ReplyDeleteDory as per usual you are aDORYable today!!!
We were so sorry to read about Tank...such a bad thing to happen to such a sweet pup...we should sic the vampire club memebers on the Bonehead!!!
Madi and Mom
Dory, thanks for the donation to Animal Haven! "Poorly trained humans" is a very nice way to put it... the Old Guy would use harsher language, but he does agree that it's totally the owners fault.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Everyone should go to school, even humans. My little cousin was attacked and it wasn't the dogs fault either. It was the humans fault. Terrible.....
ReplyDeleteWiggles,
Brind'Amour
You tell'em mom!!! We agree. Yep, Cesar needs to train more humans.
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
I agree with your mum there are a lot of untrained humans out there...
ReplyDeleteHugs GJ xx
My Mom agrees with you, she always blames the owner and not the dog. We have a great dane and a St. Bernard 2 houses away and they are big babies. My Mom is making me tell you this story for vampire Friday. One time she was trying to trim my tummy(first mistake) and when she leaned me back I bit her neck really hard, well it was an accident, kind of, well she had no business grooming me. The point is that I am a little dog and can be quite a vampire myself. She had a hematoma for almost a month(giggle). Sasha! Oops I mean sorry Mom. Sometimes dogs just bite, so can I be a vampire hunter like Dory and Bilbo, I bet Bilbo and I could hunt some down?
ReplyDeletelicks and sniffs, Sasha
p.s. Do you have to mention that dog guy????
I second that emotion, Dory--Humans need to learn how to take care us animals--we're not just 'cute'--Makes me wanna go scratch their eyes out!
ReplyDeleteNoir
Us big black dogs get a bad rap too!!!
ReplyDeleteNo bad dogs...only bad people!!!
Hugs,
Buddy
Scary dogs come in all sizes because bad owners come in all sizes.
ReplyDeleteWhen people get scared of me it makes me very nervous. Momma always tells them to relax and just not look at me, but sometimes they stare right at me like they are threatening me!
I have to admit that I get kind of intimidated by little doggies sometimes. They move so fast!
Momma protects me and keeps me away from places that are scary. Poor Pee-Wee. He is just a little guy, but some people are afraid of him because he is black.
I am glad Tank is OK.
Slobbers,
Mango
Hi, Dory!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. There are no bad dogs... there are bad humans.
It was scary what happened to Tank. Glad he is ok now!
Take care
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
My pal Lorenza pawed it furry well!
ReplyDeleteHugz&Khysses,

Hi Dory
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Tank. Glad he is ok. I'm small but bad sometimes. (blame my owners). I'm in group therapy at the dog park.
We are in complete agreement that humans are responsible for the way their pups turn out. I'm so glad that Tank is ok. What a horrifying experience.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Teddy Bear
Poor Tank! We went over to put in our two cents!
ReplyDeleteMy mom had a Rottie about 160 pounds (before I was born)and she said she was the sweetest dog ever! (Wait a minute....MOMMMM!)
ReplyDeleteHi Dory,
ReplyDeleteTerrific post! We totally agree the hoomans need more training!!
The doggies and kitties and Animal Haven will be very thankful!
Wags & wiggles,
Bijou
Woof Woof! I could not agree more...I am a Lab/Boxer Mix and just love to give kisses and play. We just need better trained humans :)
ReplyDeleteLicks--
Olive :)
You are so right about people. They need a license to drive and they should have to get a license to have pets...and children, too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Dory...
ReplyDeleteVery well said...
My cousin Rosco is a big guy & he wouldn't hurt anyone...Someone once said, "Rosco has a heart as big as Texas" & they are right...
It's cuz his Mom & Dad (my human sister & her hubby) have loved & cared for & trained him every day of his life...
I wish all doggies had that...
