Travel Tuesday - Victorian Ferndale

This is a very happy Travel Tuesday, because I (Dory) actually got to travel!!!!
It was only a day trip, but Mama and I headed 45 minutes south on the 101 to the historical town of Ferndale.

Are you sure I don't need my suitcase, Mama???
Mama buckled me up for safety and we headed out. The day was a little foggy,  which meant cooler temperatures, but we totally didn't care. Cooler temperatures are always nicer when
you are on a road trip!!

Is that a squirrel, Mama??
Settled in the late 1800's during the Victorian Era, Ferndale was one of the the agricultural capitals of Northern California. Needless to say, there are bunches of beautiful Victorian homes in the area!
Here I am pondering history (or looking at a squirrel) in front of one of the doorways!

Here is the Ferndale Museum! You can find out all about the history and culture of Ferndale at the museum! You can click HERE to for more museum information.

Shouldn't this thing be in the museum???
OMD Mama, what is this thing???
 A Pay Phone??
How do they listen to music on this thing??
Where do they keep the apps???

We need to come back and stay here, Mama!!
Here I am in front of the Shaw House
The Shaw House is the oldest Bed and Breakfast in California (according to Frommer's)!
They have pet friendly rooms and are really close to the shops on Main Street!  Visit the Shaw House by clicking HERE.

Here is the Victorian Inn. It was built in 1890 by Banker Ira Russ and is one of the most photographed buildings in Northern California! You can read more about the Victorian Inn HERE.

Another historic Inn, the Ivanhoe is also known for it's delicious Italian restaurant!

The Palace Saloon is known for being the most westerly bar on the California Coast!!!

Mama and I had a wonderful morning walking around admiring the architecture and reading all the historical markers!
In fact, we enjoyed the houses and gardens so much, we are featuring them on Flower Friday this week!

So stop by Friday to experience more of beautiful Victorian Ferndale!!

  8. That's beautiful. I have a soft spot for Victorian excess in architecture. Everything is so lively and colorful! And it's wonderful to hear that there are pet-friendly B&Bs in the area. Win-win!

  9. Oh Dory, we loved all your commentary about that phone booth. We have never seen one either. Mom loves Victorian houses. We have a little development near our house that has about 20 Victorian styled homes - so pretty and so authentic. Mom wishes Dad would buy her one:)

  17. Ferndale really doesn't look like a California town. Its architecture is so cute. It looks like you and your mom really had fun. I'm glad you got to go, Dory! And I'm glad you buckle up for safety (our pups do too!).
