This week, on Backyard Wildlife Weekend, we are getting into the Howliday spirit with a look at some jolly little Juncos! These little feathered friends stay most of the Winter in our backyard along with the House Finches and, for this year at least, the little Yellow Rump Warblers. Enjoy this video TC took of the Juncos playing in our fountain!
What birds are you seeing in your backyard this winter???

ReplyDeleteOh, they are cute wee guys! I have seen photos of Juncos on other blogs, but never seen them move - or beside other birds for comparison. Knowing the Finches as I do, I now realise the Junco is much smaller than I had been imagining.
The weather is truly awful at the moment, so very few bird sightings - but when the rain and wind lets off, there's always Herring Gulls, Magpies, Crows, Pigeons (all big birds), then Eurasian Robins, Hedge Sparrows, Goldfinches, and occasionally, a Bluetit or two. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
We love the juncos with their grey top feathers and bellies that look like they have been sliding in the snow! They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour waterfall must not freeze if it gets cold. At least you have some birds that come by to use the water. They probably appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteThose juncos are so cute. We have a different variety that spends the winter with us and we love seeing them too.
ReplyDeleteAwww on you and the video.
ReplyDeleteWe have sparrows, hummingbirds and we have a sparrow hawk. The sparrows disappear when the sparrow hawk shows up.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the girls and my very best to their wonderful peeps. ♥
I love the little rascals in spite of their nickname here which is,Snow Bird. We never see them til winter. I love their cute faces and gray feathers.

The birds are so cute. I loved your video! Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun birds and an adorable Sunny!
ReplyDeleteThey do look happy to be there.
ReplyDeleteJust potential snow birds
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Our Dada loves juncos! They were all over the place when he and Mama were in Shenandoah and they were super fun to watch."
ReplyDeleteCharlee: "Now that sounds like my kind of vacation. Why don't we all take a road trip to Shenandoah? Wherever that is?"
They are adorably cute. Only birds I've seen in the new neighborhood are Canadian Geese probably due to the nearby golf course. ;) Hopefully we can find others soon as there are a couple of built wildlife habitats on the trail. Not much water running in the creek though so maybe that's the reason for minimal birds.
