Happy Fat Tuesday!

We've got some fun facts to share about Mardi Gras in New Orleans today to help celebrate Fat Tuesday.


 Did you know the first actual Mardi Gras "Carnival" held in New Orleans was in the late 1700s...

...but the first daytime parade for Mardi Gras in New Orleans wasn't until the 1870s!

Mardi Gras is actually a whole season. It begins on the 6th of January(The"12th Night") and ends on Fat Tuesday, the night before lent. 

Beads "grow" on trees during Mardi Gras season, the trees lining  the iconic St. Charles Avenue are brimming with beads by Fat Tuesday(and after...this picture of leftover beads was taken in May!)

    love the bells on your head Rosy, and Sunny, you would look so cute in that pretty mask, now we need a smaller one to fit you. I knew none of this and had not idea NO was even there in 1699 or that they were doing MG back in the 1700

    Mom was down there for Mardi Gras a couple times when she was flying and we still have beads and things in one of our boxes downstairs. It was a crazy time to be there she has said. You both look ready!

    I grew up in NOLA and marched in parades. It really is true, we don't hide our crazy we parade it down the streets.

    Here is a fun fact the first Mardi Gra in America was in Mobile Alabama in 1703
