Today, since everyone has a bit of extra time, I thought it would be nice to show you the Point Pinos Lighthouse. We stopped to there to visit last month during my road trip to Carmel!
It was one of the California lighthouses Mama hadn't seen yet, so it was nice to cross it off of the list!
The Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in California that has stayed in almost continuous use.
It opened in 1855 and was one of the seven original California Lighthouses!
Wowsers, that is even older than Mama!!!
It has only been dark twice. First during the Big San Francisco Earthquake of 1906(it got damaged and needed the lens replaced) and then again during WWII during mandatory black out times!
The lighthouse is located in Pacific Grove, CA (just southwest of Monterey)
Emily Fish added beautiful landscaping and gardens to the lighthouse while she was Lighthouse keeper from 1896 until 1914.
This lighthouse has a Fresnel Lens (read more here) that is still in operation today under the US Coast Guard Management.
The movie is a bit long, feel free to pop over toYouTube HERE and watch it later!
I hoped you enjoyed learning a bit about the Point Pinos Lighthouse. The only downside to the lighthouse was dogs weren't allowed to visit. This was fine with me(and Daddy) though because I got to go on a nice long walkie along the ocean with Daddy, while Mama puttered around the lighthouse!
We are on "Mandatory Shelter In Place" restrictions as of today. Thank Dog one of the exceptions is hiking, so you'll find us out on a trail this weekend.

We sure hope all our friends are healthy and safe and get to find some time to experience your own Nature this weekend!
Show
us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a
picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE

What a pretty lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteYou know what Rosy, sometimes our media - yes even our revered BBC - can be a bit useless. We have just been hearing on the news that California is now under a coronavirus lockdown, but somehow they failed to mention the VERY IMPORTANT information that peeps and pups will be allowed out for walks.
Happy Nature Friday!
Toodle pip!
Bertie.

ReplyDeleteOh you know I just love this place... and it is a true light HOUSE!!! Thank you Rosy - and mama - for sharing it with us to brighten the end of a very long week. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Wow, it's just beautiful and the yard and gardens are so pretty too!
ReplyDeleteMom is still very busy with work at home as always so we almost forget there is so much trouble out there. One day it will probably slow down which will be good so Mom has more time for fun with us. Stay safe and enjoy hiking.
ReplyDeleteDearest Niece Rosy thank you for the tour of what your mom and I love. Your yellow bow and adorable pastel and seersucker bandana are beautiful
ReplyDeleteHugs Aunty HiC
so happy you can hike and walk and get out... as I looked at the beautiful grounds around this wonderful lighthouse, I thought who will take care of all that beauty? I love the top of the lighthouse most of all, but also the shape of the building is appealing to me.. PLUS what a SWEET face as you host the post today, Rosy
ReplyDeleteI read you all had to stay indoors! Hopefully the weather will hold and you will be able to enjoy some nice walks and hikes, otherwise it will be very difficult!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great lighthouse you shared with us. You sure are looking cute today Rosy. It's good to hear you are not restricted from taking a nice walk in nature.
ReplyDeleteThat lighthouse sure is pretty and so are you sweet Rosy!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing. We have a couple lighthouses north of us on the shore of Lake Ontario.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your brothers, and peeps stay safe and healthy!
I love lighthouses. They are beautiful and always have such a wonderful story.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to all the pups. ♥
Ooh, what a lovely lighthouse! I bet that was a nice walk around the ocean with your daddy too. <3
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely and unique lighthouse. Never seen one that was actually a 'house'. Guess if you're isolated in a lighthouse, gardening is a good occupation. Just beautiful. enjoy your hike. So far, we have no restrictions.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful lighthouse! I would have enjoyed exploring that with your Mom!
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad you at least will be able to get out for some hikes.
All is fine here except for the craziness of the stores selling out of everything!

We have been social distancing as they call it here, since Monday. The are now saying months. It is so interesting, man will continue to work. Lady has a few work things to do but then she is done. Cause she is self-employed there will be a special benefit she will apply for. So interesting and weird.
ReplyDeleteYour light house was beautiful. We loved the history of it. Stay safe and healthy dear friends.
What a beautiful lighthouse! Our mom and dad used to go to Pacific Grove when they lived in Monterey. We'll have to ask if it was there yet when they were there. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are SO adorable!!!
Cam and Maggie
Thanks for telling us all about that nice lighthouse. We think you might not be quite right about Mama's age:)
ReplyDeleteWe hope you can all get out for those hikes despite the stay in place order. We think lots more of us are going to get the same order sooner or later:(
Woos, Lightning and Timber
That's a pretty house the light house is in. We just stay home most of the time anyhow, so things aren't really very different for any of us. Even Mom and Dad work out of the house! XOX Xena and Lucy
ReplyDeleteOh so nice
ReplyDeleteWe love lighthouses and that was is a beauty
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that it has been lit for SO long and almost continuously. Wowzers.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that hiking is an exception. I suspect that the whole country is going to be locked down pretty soon.
I love light houses! It is nice to see something lovely during this stressful time. We are staying indoors and getting odd jobs taken care of that we have put off.
ReplyDeleteLulu: "That lighthouse looks a lot like the lighthouse we have here in Point Loma!"
ReplyDeleteOh, Ma loooooves that Lighthouse too! She always visits when she gets down there ~ it is most beautiful! I am so glads that the peeps are able to get outta the house and walk the doggies, or they (and us!) might go mad! BOL!! We can do this!
ReplyDeleteKeep the peeps safe!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
