Happy Nature Friday! We are celebrating Summer this week by showing you some more of Mama's favorite Summer visitor, the Hummingbird!
As our
title mentions, it certainly has been a Hummer Summer! We have had these
little guys buzzing and chirping on the back porch from sunrise to
sunset for the past few months!
We think they all have had babies and now the babies are also coming to visit on a daily basis! Mama has three smaller feeders(2 cups of nectar each) and one big feeder(4 cups of nectar) and she is refilling them every other day.
Those are some hungry hummers!! Mama enjoys taking pictures of the hummers in the morning sun because you can see their colors better.
This guy looks like he may have had a bit too much sugar BOL!
According to some, Hummers can also have spiritual
meaning.
Some Native American tribes see hummingbirds as a symbol of love, playfulness and healing.
In other places around the world, hummers are a sign of adaptability
Some people even believe hummingbirds signify a visit from a loved one who may have passed away.
The only thing Mama and I both know for sure is we always feel happy when we are watching the hummers!!
Do you have hummers in your corner of Blogville??
We hope everyone gets a glimpse of nature this weekend!
Sadly we have no hummingbirds in Scotland, so it is extra special to see your Mama's photos of these wonderful, joyous little birds. And who wouldn't overdose on a yummy and regularly replenished supply of nectar?

There are hummers here, but we don't feed the birds. Sometimes mom puts squirrel food in the bird feeders we have to try to get squirrels to hang out in the yard for us to play with. Hummers are fun ones to watch when it comes to birds.
ReplyDeleteDearest Niece Rosy OMDs you have a bumper crop of summer hummers. We do have one kind in North Carolina the Ruby Throated and I do so adore them. I usually put out my first feeders in Mid March. That is when 'supposedly' the male hummers start looking for real estate to entice their ladies. About Mid April - late September sometimes early Oct they are here sipping sugar water. OMDs you are correct that last one might have had one sip too many. The Sugar water barista might need to cut him off.

We have lots of hummers in our yard right now too. For most of the summer we didn't think we had a female nesting, but she started showing up to the flowers and feeders a little over a month ago, so we knew she was feeding babies. Now the babies are out of the nest, and we have four to five of them buzzing between our feeders and flowers all day long. Sadly, in a couple of weeks they will all start their journey south for the winter. Who knows, maybe they will pass through your yard someday!
ReplyDeletethe two photos above and below the words Native American are spectacular and would make stunning greeting cards. I have never seen humming bird except in photos.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some really cool Hummers! I can't ever capture them on my phone camera-your mama does a great job showing off their beauty with her camera.
ReplyDeleteThose sweet hummers are almost as pretty as you are sweet Rosy!
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy to read about Sunny. We are excited for all the fall pictures you are going to get. Lady is amazed by the pictures of the hummingbirds. She has not attempted them, but has loved watching them in our yard. Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteWe love our hummingbirds
ReplyDeleteChaplin: "Hummingbirds! So hard to classify!"

Chaplin: "Are they big bugs with big noses?"
Charlee: "We have no idea. But we sure like to stare at them."
