Thankful for Beautiful Sunrises!
As we get close to the middle of August, New Mexico is reaching the start of Sunrise season!!
Unlike the clear sky June and July sunrises, we are waking up to some cloud cover which makes for some very colorful sunrises in our backyard!
The pinks, purples and oranges really glow, don't you think!
Of course, this means we are having a few boomers during the day. They pass over quickly though, and aren't very loud.
When you get colorful sunrises like this, the storms are worth it.
Even when the clouds are on the horizon, the sun makes itself known!
We are so very thankful to have beautiful sunrises to accompany our morning backyard strolls!

Summer Flowers on Nature Friday
Wow, it's hard to believe it's the second Nature Friday in June. This year sure is zooming by, isn't it?? This week there are a whole bunch of new flowers blooming in the backyard. Thanks to the interwebs, along with our friends that used to live here, we even have names for all of them.
Let's go take a look!
Against the back fence there is a Penstemon or Beardstongue bush.Their flowers remind Mama and I of miniature Foxglove.
In front of the Beardstongue are two Blue Salvia
plants. Isn't the deep blue pretty?!
A little further to the right along the fence, the neighbors have a Desert Willow tree that cascades into our backyard, the blooms are just beautiful!
A Mexican Bird of Paradise tree is a little further to the left of the Desert Willow. This
pretty flower bush is also in the neighbor's backyard. But we have a young one growing in our backyard that will probably bloom next year!
One of my favorite blooms and a great place to hunt lizards are the Texas Yucca blooms in the Cactus garden.
This Texas Yucca has pink flowers, but the one we have in the front yard has yellow flowers. The birds don't care what color the flowers are, they just like to look for tasty and tender seeds in the flowers.
We couldn't believe it when we found out these blooms will grow up to be Pomegranates! Unfortunately for Mama, this plant is also in a neighbor's yard.
Looks like Mama is going top have to make some more new friends!
Finally, these little flowers grow along the porch, aren't they a pretty purple?? They are called Zebra Mallows.
There you have some of the flowers blooming in our backyard right now. Mama and I continue to be amazed at all the beauty we are finding in our High Desert Backyard!

My New Backyard

There are many things about moving that were hard,
First among them was my new backyard.
Would it be fun, would my spirits soar?
It was all that I tell you, and even more!
No stairs to climb down, no rain to be had,
all of these things made me so very glad!
The birdies land every where and fly when I run.
I could stay out all day chasing and never be done.
The only sad thing that causes me woe,
is Mama says in 5 or 6 months we'll have to go.
She promises our next new backyard will be even more...
Because she loves seeing my spirit soar!!
