This week we have a special spooky Travel Tuesday for Halloween week. When we visited Creede last July, the pawrents visited an old cemetery.
The Creede Cemetery was established in 1890 and is a Pioneer Cemetery(which basically means it is a cemetery where pioneers are layed to rest).
The Sunnyside Chapel is right below the cemetery. Believe it or not, this chapel was originally a Catholic Church. It was moved from it's original location, on Main Street in Downtown Creede, up to the cemetery. The Chapel was renovated and is now rented out for weddings and other special events.
BOO!
The souls(or ghosts maybe?) that lay to rest here have beautiful eternal views, don't you think? Bob Ford, the man reported to have killed Jesse James(and was murdered in a Creede saloon) is buried in Creede Cemetary
Many of the older graves were of young adults and children.
The founders of Creede were pretty isolated, and doctors were rare, so many didn't make it to adulthood due to disease or accidents.
Human cemeteries sure are interesting!
Thanks for tagging along for our short Halloween week visit to the Creede Cemetery!
Have you ever visited an historic cemetery?

Mom loves old churches - thanks for sharing its history. That cemetery holds a lot of history, and yes, it was a bit spooky, especially with that sepia touch. You two make good ghosts, the only kind we ever want to meet:)

Lulu: "Our Mama and Dada used to love visiting old cemeteries back East! Dada says the church in this one reminds him of the church from 'Preacher'!"
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Ayyy, did he say what preacher?"
Lulu: "No, there's only one I guess ..."
