Howdy y'all and welcome to Nature Friday!
Earlier this month Mama visited the
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge to do some bird watching! Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the park during the Winter months. It seems a bunch of different birds like to make this park their home during this time and don't like dogs chasing or barking at them.
No big loss for me...the park is about 2 hours south of Albuquerque, and I do NOT want to be in the car that long!
Fortunately, Mama took lots of pictures to share!
Snow geese are one of the species that enjoy wintering in the park.
You can see why they are called Snow geese...
Just look how white their feathers are!
Let's see what else the Refuge has to offer!
Mama says it reminds her a bit of the Arcata Marsh where she used to hike in Northy North California...
There is a lot of marsh land
...and little streams.
She spotted this cute little Say's Phoebe Flycatcher
and this Sand Hill Crane. People come from all around the country to see the Sand Hill Cranes that fly to the Refuge for the Winter.
But it's not just birds at the Wildlife Refuge....
Mama caught a glimpse of this Javelina too!
She even saw a Wild Turkey!
We'll wrap up Nature Friday with a Greater Roadrunner.....
Mama called him a Rebel Roadrunner, because he was headed straight into the part of the park that was closed BOL!!
