A Bit About Red River, NM

Happy July! It's hard to believe 2025 is already half over...time just flies by, don't you think?!

Today, I thought I'd tell you a little about the small town of Red River. Mama took pictures whenever she went into town for "human time"

...I guess I'll have to show you those, because I never got to actually go into town.

Before the Red River Valley was populated, it was used for hunting by the Ute and Jicarilla Apache Native Americans during the Summer months. They hunted Longhorn sheep, deer and various types of other wildlife that was abundant in the area.

The mining boom of the late 1800s brought prospectors and those looking to "get rich quick" to the Southern Rocky Mountains. This led to an abundance of busy mining camps, including Red River.

As fast as the mining boom ramped up, it began to decline and by the early 1900s, many of the areas population declined as people moved away. Luckily, Red River had more to offer than gold, silver and the like....It had TOURISM!
Located at the base of the Red River Ski area, Red River is a great place to stay during the Winter to enjoy skiing, snowboarding and sledding. There are many hotels, condominiums and other rentals to stay!

During the Summer it is a wonderful place to escape the heat. With an elevation of 8,750ft above sea level, the temperatures were about 15 degrees cooler in Red River than at home in Rio Rancho. There is a bunch to do in the area too. Hiking was our favorite thing to do, but there was so much more!

Like eating at the Red River Brewery, where everything from sliders to delicious salads were had
BY.THE.HUMANS....not.the.dogs
(Life can be so unfair!)

There were rumors the Brewery was dog-friendly...but Mama and Daddy would neither confirm or deny this.
I sure would have loved a slider or 2!

The HUMANS also went to the Old Tymer's Cafe for Breakfast....There were giant pancakes, yummy french toast and delicious eggs had (by everyone but ME!)

You could rent fun bicycle surry things....

...or just walk around, visit the cute shops and take in the fun views!

As you might be able to tell, the pawrents really enjoyed the town of Red River, and have put it on their "We would visit there again" list!

In case anyone was wondering what my "I want to go for a hike too" sad face looks like, this is it.

Don't worry though, I got to go on two long and VERY fun hikes while we were in Red River. I'll be back Friday to tell you about the first one!

Today, I have a little poem about my life in general....
Living My Best Life
by Rosy

As time passes by, and I grow older
I'm not quite as shy, in fact I'm a bit bolder.
I've learned how to make my face a bit sad,
and with just one look, I'm on a walk with my Dad!

I have no fears about rides in ArCe,
especially when she stops and new sites I do see.
Walks in the sand, the grass or RV park,
I've even learned that I don't have to bark!

Even at home, there is no need to be stressed,
Mama has learned I don't always need to be dressed!
Sunny and I have put away our strife...
So now I am living my very best life!

Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE  to go to our Hoppity Page.

Happy Summer from Sasebo Gardens

Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week we are back for our June peek at Sasebo Japanese Garden.

Everything is so very green as we enter the Summer months....

The paths are nice and shady which is good. The temperatures have been getting in the 80s by 9AM, when Mama usually gets to the garden for her walks, and the New Mexico sun is brutal!

The peonies are coming to the end of their blooming cycle...but the pink petals still look pretty.

Here are a few views of the waterfall.
It is mostly in the shade now too.

These are some kind of pretty berries.

These beautiful yellow day lilies were everywhere!

Mama also found this deep purple wild iris (she thinks it may be a Louisiana Wild Iris).

Here is a short video of her walk:

We hope all our friends can get out and find some nature on this first official weekend of Summer.

Happy Campfire Memories

As the temperatures heat up, we are packing up and heading to the mountains of New Mexico for a long weekend in search of cooler weather.

It made us think of our trip to Angel Fire, which is very close to where
we're going later this week.

It sure was nice having campfires in the cooler weather, wasn't it Rosy??

It sure was Sunny, I hope we get to have a campfire this weekend too. Then again, after the triple digit heat we've been having at home this week,  I'll be happy if the temperatures are below 90F (37C).
