Welcome to Nature Friday where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week we are going to share some fun pictures and video of our resident Northern Flicker.
He is a big fan of the suet Mama puts in the backyard.
He has no problem breaking off pieces with his long sharp beak, does he??
He doesn't visit Birdy Theater often, so when he does, Mama loves to show him off. This video shows a bit of his personality as he interacts with a flock of Starlings and Red Wing Blackbirds (who can be very annoying!).
He sure is a pretty bird, we always look forward to seeing him around the backyard!
Thanks for joining us for a little Friday Flicker fun today!
We hope everyone has a chance to view some nature this weekend!!
Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE to go to our Hoppity Page.
Although Mama may not agree, today I am thankful that she has to stay off of her feet. It means unlimited snuggle time for me (and I suppose Rosy too)!
I'm going to enjoy it while I can because Mama goes back to the doctor in 2 weeks!
Thank you to Maxwell and Angel Brian for hosting the
Today, we are going to take a look at some of the house finches that visit our Smart Feeder. We think out of all the birds in the backyard right now, they look the most like little dinosaurs!
Welcome to Nature Friday where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. To celebrate the week of love, I thought I would gather some roses we have collected through the years and share them with you. Mama has collected roses from all over the US, but these are mostly from California and New Mexico.
"There is simply The Rose, it is perfect in every moment of its existence." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
"When you stop to smell a Spring flower [or a Rosy flower] , it's as if the soul of that flower settles inside you! And then you become that flower for a short time..." ~Mehmet Murat ildan
"The rose is without an explanation; She blooms because She blooms!" ~Angelus Silesius
I especially like that last quote. I am good at doing things that should never require explanation, right Mama? BOL
We hope you enjoyed these Valentine's Day rosies, and hope everyone gets out to enjoy some nature this weekend!

Today, I am thankful that my Daddy is picking up the slack in the walk department. Last Saturday we even picked up trash along our walk, a WHOLE garbage bag full of trash. As you can tell, I was amazed at how much humans leave trash everywhere.
I am very thankful for humans, like Daddy, who clean up trash instead of leaving it on the ground.
Come on Daddy, let's get back to our trashy walking!
Thank you to Maxwell and Angel Brian for hosting the
As Valentine's Day gets closer, we thought it would be fun to take a look at the bird couples that we see in our backyard. They visit both the birdy theater and smart feeder together. Most of the birdy couples stay together for the mating season, with the exception of the red winged blackbird. Seems like he likes to play the field and will take a few mates throughout the season....
I guess that explains why there are SO MANY of them.
The house finches that visit SF are Mama's fave because it always seems the male watches over the female while she is eating!
Welcome to Nature Friday where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. Today, we are going to take a look at some of the pictures Mama took after the snow we got a couple of weeks ago. Mostly she took pictures of birds because we were too lazy cold to play in the snow.
This is SF the smart bird feeder, Mama cleared the snow after she took the picture so the birds wouldn't have any problem finding their food.
Our resident House Finches were happy the feeders got filled the day before the storm.
The Junco couple were happy for the seed the finches were dropping
...and here is a Mourning dove giving Mama the stink eye. We feel ya Miss Dove, that Mama and her camera can be annoying!
Speaking of Mama and her camera....well kinda...Mama got a diagnosis on her knee yesterday. The good news is she doesn't have to have surgery and can keep giving us food and treats as scheduled. BUT, she does have a stress fracture along with a mini disco (miniscus) problem. She is banned from unnecessary walking which, I have been told, includes MY DAILY WALKIES! She has to use a silly brace and crutches for the next FOUR WEEKS. Luckily we have LOTS of archive pictures if we don't get out and about for new photos.
Anyways....back to the snow pictures:
The fountain sure is missed by the birdies, it looks so quiet and serene covered with snow though.
The temps got down in the teens, BRRRRR!
The icicles made another appearance(Mama knocks them all down after she takes pictures of them).
The snow even clung to the Texas Cactus seed pods making for a very pretty picture!
We'll wrap up this week with a little female house finch basking in the warm sun!
We hope you enjoyed this week's look at our snowy backyard and hope all our friends get a chance to enjoy nature this weekend!
