A Visit to the ABQ Zoo

Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. Today, Mama made me I am dressed up like a lion to show some of the animals (besides the flamingos) Mama saw on her visit to the ABQ Zoo.

First up, Mama's most favorite exhibit, the giraffes!
Isn't this guy adorable?

As you know, Mama loves animals, but doesn't especially like zoos. She is happy to report that, even though the ABQ Zoo is small, they have done their best to create natural habitats for their animals.  Because there are few wire cages, Mama visits once a year (....instead of not at all), mostly to see the Flamingoes and the Penguins.

How lucky is this guy to have his breakfast within chewing distance!

Here we have a Blue Crane

and a Marabou Stork.

Here's a little video Mama put together featuring some of the animals she saw:

(As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE)

The Zoo is in the process of expanding the primate section. Mama did catch this young gorilla eating some breakfast.

This little antelope is called a Kilpspringer, and can be found in the rocky areas of Africa.

They had a nice area where tortoises roamed around.

The frogs had a building all to themselves. These poison dart frogs sure are pretty. Unfortunately, it seems the more vivid the frog's color to more poisonous it can be.
Eeek!!

We'll close today's post with this Komodo Dragon.
 He's a bit creepy, isn't he???

Thanks for joining us for today's Zoo visit and we hope all our friends get to see some nature this weekend!

Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE  to go to our Hoppity Page.

What a fab folio of critters! I am like mama, I really don't like the idea of zoos, but also appreciate that most like this one are doing their best for the animals, improving exhibits and providing enrichment. And you look roarlicious in your lion suit, Rosy! Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Niece Rosy first and foremost you look just precious dressed in your Zoo costume. aunty C is 87 kinds of jealous of the Giraffe's absolutely gorgeous eyes and EYE Lashes. OMGs just a most handsome/beautiful Giraffe. I learned about the kilpspringer on several of the Zoo programs that used to come on Nat Geo Wild we don't receive any more. What adorable little fellas/gals. That is one gorgeous frog from way far away in NC.
Thank you for such a fun Nature Friday
Hugs x 4 to you and your amazing family

  9. How I do love seeing the animals! Until all the wild places are protected and we can keep animals safe where they belong, zoos are needed to prevent losing many species.

As for Mr. Komodo Dragon, be careful, the first man to document them, well, they found all his notebooks about him, his shoes and his glasses, and not much else, they’d eaten him!

  14. Xena: That posisonous frog looks like a toy. Good thing there aren't any around here! And that k. dragon looks big enough to swallow us in one bite. I don't think I want to go to a zoo. If your Mom wants to take you, just say no thank you, Mommy. Your buddy, Xena
