Neighborhood Campaigning

I had a talk with Mama and let her know, with Election Day coming up, I better get out and about in the neighborhood to meet and greet perspective voters!!

I hit the sidewalk focused on meeting and greeting as many of my constituents as possible.

I read up on all the local news and peemail pawlitical editorials

I made sure to show my face and let the neighborhood know I was ready to jump in and roll up my furs!

I also made sure Mama stayed in line...it's always a good idea to keep the assistants string training current!

I even let her take a short break to catch her breath...
and then we were off again!

I checked in on all the "fenced in" pups...

All of that and I still had time to fill up a poop bag...I always amaze Mama with my ability, as a small pup, to fill a poop bag BOL!

We were on the last leg of the tour when we met Miss Kitty!

We had a short Q & A session...

...and even a photo op!! She was a very smart and friendly kitty
and asked lots of good questions!!

Speaking of Questions....next Tuesday my fellow Candy Date Christmas and I will be resuming:
DEBATE TUESDAY!!
for the first 2 weeks we will be posing the questions, but then we will be taking your questions....So start thinking and feel free to ask questions about myself or my beautiful and smart Vice Mayor Candy Date, Mabel!!
We hope to see you then!

Save the Date!

We know it's early, but we want to make sure you save the dates
for these fun Halloween activities!!

As most of you know, October is "Adopt a Shelter Pet" month!!
Last year we decided, since Dad says no more anipals quite yet, we would think about what else we could do for Shelter Pets. That's when we decided from now on Halloween would mean;

No Tricks, Just Treats for Shelters!

This year we will be holding our Second Annual Blog Hop/Fundraiser from October 28th thru October 30th(Friday through Sunday). We will be donating $1 for everyone who links up to the hop with your Halloween post letting us know how you have helped (or plan on helping) a shelter near you! That's right, just show us how you are enjoying Halloween and how you helped (or are going to help) a shelter near you and link up to the hop.

Here are some ideas for helping:
First of all,  if you are looking for a new pet, consider adopting a Shelter  or Rescue Organization Pet!!

1. It is starting to get cold outside, gather up and donate any old blankies, towels and sheets to your local shelter.

2. Next time your Mama is buying you foodables, ask her to pick up an extra bag (or a few extra cans) to donate to your local shelter.

3. Do you have a toy maybe you didn't like, but some other doggy might,  put it in a pile to donate to a shelter.

4. Many shelters have "wish lists" on their websites. Check and see if your shelter has one and see if there is anything you or your peeps might have around the house you can donate.

5. Do you know about Amazon Smile? Every time you make an eligible purchase from Amazon Smile a portion of the proceeds goes to the charity of your choice. Click HERE to learn more!

 6. One of the ways we are helping is by donating $1 for every link to the Treats for Shelters Blog Hop along with 50 cents for every comment here at Dory's Backyard from October 28th through October 30th to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (where we adopted Arty and Jakey).

 BUT WAIT...
that's not all!!!!

I, Arty, along with Dory and Jakey, are hosting a
Blogville Halloween Pawty!!!
There will be "Bobbing for Cookies", A Blogville Hayride, and even a spooky Halloween Corn Maze!!!
Send your pictures to our Assistant (aka Mama) by October 24th!
They can be of you dressed up for real...or with Pizap
OR
You can take your chances by sending a picture and letting us dress you up!!

Feel free to take a badge and help spread the word!!
Stay tune for more information on these cool events
as we get closer!!!

Seeing Beautiful on Flower Friday

We hope everyone had a pawsome week and is Seeing Lots of Beautiful this Friday!

Believe it or not, here on the Northy North Coast of California we have been having warm and sunny weather during the day and cooler night time temperatures. It's like Fall and Summer mushing together. We decided to do the same thing with Flower Friday! Mama and I put together a slide show with  summer flowers in Fall  colors! First, I told Mama she could show you the mofties she saw this week!

Looks like they are gossiping around the pollen cooler during a break...

...and here it looks like they may be disagreeing on the final choices made for the dancers on Dancing Around the Night Light!

Enjoy the Slide Show!

Click HERE to watch on YouTube

We hope everyone has a most pawsome weekend!!

Hop aboard and show us the flowers blooming in your corner of the world (If you don't see the link here, please click HERE to go to our Hoppity page)!!

Travel Tails - Missouri and Illinois

Welcome to Thursday Travel Tails! Today, Arty and I, Dory,  are continuing our journey in Missouri and Illinois! Although we didn't see get a chance to stop and see much of the scenery in these states, we had a blast at the rest stops and one of our most favorite hotels.

Do you know what famous Blogville Scottie/Shi Tzu and American Bulldog live in Illinois???
Stay tuned at the end of the post to find out!

Before we get started, we want to take a minute to thank President Eisenhower and his vision for a cross country Interstate Highway System. The route above is the one we took from California to Indiana!!

 "Mama...I have to go potty!"
It looks like we will start with Rest Stops today!

The first thing that comes to our minds about the rest stops in Missouri and Illinois is GREEN!! There was lots and lots of grass, and all the pet areas were large and grassy with poop bags on hand if anyone needed them!
(Mama here: Like most of the Midwest Rest Areas I have traveled and stopped, both the Missouri and Illinois Rest Areas were clean and safe. The dog areas were not only big and grassy, but they were kept clean and, for the most part, poop free!)

There weren't any bunnies in these states, like there were in Kansas....

BUT ...
There were SQUIRRELS!!!!

I, Dory, had the chance to show Arty some Squirrel hunting tips!

He did a pretty good job too!!

That stubborn squirrel wouldn't come down from the tree!!

Mean ole Mama made us leave before I could show Arty how to catch that crazy squirrel.

I think she should make it up to me, don't you???

While in Illinois we stayed at the La Quinta in Collinsville, IL. It was one of our favorite La Quintas and we stayed there both on the way, and on our way back, from Indiana!! We got to the hotel early on both occasions and they had our rooms all ready to go!

After a short rest, Arty and I thought a walk was in order. So we put Mama on her string and headed out!

Tell them what we found Arty!

A Mini Golf Course right behind the hotel!!!
Cool, right??!! Mama said we didn't have time to stop and play...
Mean ole Mama!!

I found a place to sneak in after lights out though!!
Unfortunately,  I fell asleep before Mama and didn't get the chance.

We also found a big field for exploring and reading pee-mail!

When we stayed there on the way home we got to see some of the best Stormy scenery ever!!

We didn't get to spend a lot of time sightseeing in Illinois or Missouri...mostly because MAMA spent so much time hunting Covered Bridges in Indiana (see next week's Travel Tail)...but we did see some beautiful skies.

...and we crossed the Mississippi River....

...and drove through St. Louis!!

All in all, we really like the midwestern states of Illinois and Missouri and hope to spend more time exploring them soon!!

Did you guess the famous Scottie/Shi Tzu and American Bulldog from Blogville live in Illinois??

If you guessed Oreo and Addi,  you were right!!!

Join us next week when we show you some of where we visited in Indians when we weren't attending the BAR!
