A Walk in the Mountains

A couple of weeks ago the pawrents put me in JeeJee the Jeep and we went for a ride. I was a little worried maybe I was going to the Vet, but I was pleasantly surprised when Daddy said we were going for a hike in the Sandia Mountains! He said temperatures are 20-30 degrees cooler in the mountains, making is nicer for long hikes!

For some reason, Mama came along too.
She always makes me wear my harness during our hikes. I made sure she knew I was NOT happy by giving her an extra long raspberry!

I forgot all about the silly harness once we hit the trail!

The views and smells were amazing!

We saw a bunch of greenery...

The ponderosa trees were everywhere. The pawrents like to smell their bark up close,
the vanilla scent is heavenly.

We had so much fun exploring...

There were nice meadows....

Pretty trees and blue skies...

and lots of lizards to chase!!

Mama made a short video of our hike:

As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE

I think the Sandia Mountain hiking trails might be my new happy place and I bet we go back
for more hikes this summer!

Rosy Roses on Nature Flower Friday

Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week, we are taking a look at the roses that have been blooming at the ABQ Botanical Garden!

We mentioned yesterday how the frequent Spring rains have really helped the flowers bloom in our corner of Blogville.
Here is some proof, just take a look at all the beautiful roses:
Pink buds....

Faded pink flat blooms

Fiery red roses...

...and dusty pink petals!

Here we have a very cute Lhasa flower ;-)

This mountain rose has such a vivid yellow center, don't you think?

This peach bud is just dreamy!

I wish they had smell-a-vision, because the rose scent was just heavenly!

We leave you with the reddest rose in the garden
for Aunty C (it's her favorite color)!

Thanks for joining us today for a stroll through the ABQ Botanic Garden Rose Garden. We sure hope all our friends get out and enjoy some nature this weekend!

Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE  to go to our Hoppity Page.

Thankful for Rain Showers

We always look forward to Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday, it gives us a chance to think of something we are thankful for every week.

This week are so thankful for all the nice Spring rain that we've been having this year. It is wonderful for the flowers and it keeps the temperatures from getting to hot.

Have you been getting lots of rain this Spring??

Thank you Angel Brian for hosting the

Be Careful What You Wish for Mama

Remember when Mama hoped for Rocky Raccoon to come back and get those froggies in our backyard????

Look what TC captured of the froggies and their foes:

Uh----Oh-----

(As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE)

Poor froggies, looks like Mama got what she wished for......
We have't seen any froggies since Rocky's last visit.

El Morro National Monument on Travel Tuesday

As we mentioned, during our visit to Grants, the pawrents got a chance to hike along the El Morro National Monument.

El Morro National Monument is a natural rock formation that rises about 200 feet above the surrounding landscape.

The geology of the large bluff alone is amazing.

As snow melts and rain falls, it creates rivulets that lead to a naturally formed basin.

It is the only water hole for miles around and way back when, the water hole was also along a popular trail in the area and was a welcomed place to camp.

This water hole was a major source of water for both local Native Americans and passing Spaniards traveling through the area, not to mention it was(and is) a popular place for wildlife to drink.

As the travelers came through, they left their marks on the mountain...literally!

From Native American petroglyphs....

and the inscriptions of conquistadors of the 1600s

to soldiers passing through the area in the 1800s. There are literally hundreds of different petroglyphs and names carved into the rock.

The park does there best to preserve the current carvings and prevent the current generation from leaving any graffiti.

The pawrents still talk about how amazing it was to see so much Southwestern and Native American history in one place!

Needless to say, this hike made the pawrents very happy
(as you can probably tell by the smiles on their faces).

Most importantly, Rosy and I were happy to get a nice nap in before our next Lava walk!!

Grants was a nice, relaxing place to spend the weekend and we had a great time both with friends, and with just the family. There is so much nature to explore and fun to be had. The Ice Caves, El Morro National Monument, the collections of ancient volcanos and lava flows. This,  along with watching trains and looking at the old parts of Route 66 are just some of the things to do in the area.

We are so very happy to be able to have all of these attractions within two hours of home and know we will be back to visit.

Patio Aaaws

On cool mornings, Mama likes to sit out on the patio and drink her coffee

Sometimes, I jump up on her lap to keep her company.

....and help her relax by letting her pet me.

I know, it's rough work but some puppy has to do it.... ;-)
