Happy Nature Friday!!
Last week Mama visited the Albuquerque Zoo. We got to look at the pictures and, I have to say, the animals sure didn't look to happy to see her!
(From Mama: The ABQ Zoo does a lot of good work, and is updating many of their exhibits. As is the case is almost any zoo I visit, I never see any real happy animals. This is one of the reasons I don't often visit local zoos more than once or twice. The pictures below really seem to prove my hypothesis)
Just look at this Gorilla Daddy! He is looking straight down his nose at Mama. I think I've seen Granddaddy look at Mama this way!!
Here is Mama and baby Gorilla. Mama is hiding her face, can you spot the sleeping baby's face??
Mr. Orangutan wouldn't even favor Mama with a look! Well, he is eating...I can understand that I guess.
Whoah Mr. Peacock, that's quite the stink eye!!
Oh Mama, we hope you walked fast past Mr. Cheetah's exhibit...he looks down right angry!!
Wow, these animals really aren't very happy, are they???
This giraffe gave Mama a raspberry!!
This little wood duck doesn't seem too upset, probably because he was just visiting the zoo, and could fly away any time he wanted!
The zebras look sleepy from sunbathing, or maybe they had just finished a jog around their habitat.
The King of the Jungle doesn't look sad...but he is looking at Mama like she might be dinner.
BOL!
Thanks for tagging along with Mama to the ABQ Zoo. The animals may not look too happy,
but through the research at zoos and the habitats provided for animals that might be extinct if they weren't there, we suppose zoos are a necessity.
What do you think about the existence
of Zoos where you live??
Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE to go to our Hoppity Page.
Who knew a peacock could give such a powerful stink eye. And Mr Lion looks like he means business too.
ReplyDeleteGail is in two minds about zoos. Even the ones where great care has been taken to provide animals with living quarters that are spacious and suitable for the breed, it feels at best demeaning to these wonderful beasts. But for humans to learn to appreciate wildlife, there is no substitute for seeing animals close up in the flesh, and not everyone can afford a safari to the Serengeti.
We had to laugh at the gorilla. His look is priceless☺ Mom hasn't been to a zoo in almost fifty years and it was the Bronx Zoo. The animals are always interesting to watch.
ReplyDeleteMom hasn't been to a zoo in years. We have a really good zoo just a couple miles from our home where the animals are out in the "wild", no cages and stuff. Maybe one day she will go back there and have a look.
ReplyDeleteThose make me cry! I went to one in Jacksonville Florida when I was in my early 20s and I haven’t been to one since then. I just can’t stand to see them pinned up. They’re also beautiful and even though they have a natural habitat which is better than the cages they were in when I was in my 20s I still can’t stand to see them. I used to bother me that people had a small vase container on their desk with a fish and side I don’t like fish in a tank either they’re meant to swim free not in little tiny containers.
ReplyDeletePS to my comment once when I said this to a friend of the YMCA about the zoo she said you have a dog at home right? And I said yes and she said well you got him in a cage it’s just a big cage your yard is the cage your house as a cage.
DeleteNiece Rosy first up is my critique of your Nature Friday attire. OMDS OMCs OMmy!
ReplyDeleteYou are the most adorably fashionable Virtual Safari Guide in the universe. Aunty C wants to be you.
Ironically we were having lunch with Uncle's brother and his wife yesterday. We talked about visiting the NC Zoo in the spring. None of us have been in probably 15 years. The times we have visited we learned 2 things: 1. don't go when it is damp or raining. The giraffes are not allowed on exhibit because of the slippery habitat. 2. don't go in during NC's 3 H's season
The animals napping in very secluded spots. I vividly remember is the Polar Bears were playing volley ball and practicing their Olympic dives and the river otters really and truly were deserved an Oscar for their performances. I will keep out look out when we go and let you know
Hugs Aunty C
Those animals sure have attitude, Rosy. We think that peacock is so beautiful even if he was giving your momma the stink eye. You sure look cute in that amazing hat.
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Our big zoos here are the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park. At the Safari Park a lot of the animals are in giant enclosures where they can run and behave more or less naturally, except of course for the part where the humans give them food."
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "I like being given food by humans."
Lulu: "We know it would be best if animals could just stay and be appreciated in their natural habitats, but the humans aren't great at sharing the planet I guess ..."
Beautiful zoo animal photos and sweet doggie too ~

Hi Rosy. I think that lion looks like he jus wants a good scritching. Of course, it might be the last time someone thinking that was wrong, BOL! Mommy says that the Atlanta zoo, about 2 hours south of us, was in the bottom 10 in the country until about 20 or so years ago when they switched to all natural habitats and got moved to the top 10! ReplyDeleteThose sure are somee amazing critters sweet Rosy, but you're right, they don't look overly happy. But, I hope you have a happy weekend sweetie girl.
ReplyDeleteThat is one majestic looking gorilla
ReplyDeleteThose were some amazing animals! Glad you were able to see them.
ReplyDeleteLady has many of the same feelings as your mom about the zoos. The pictures are stunning, even if the animals are not all happy. We have a long way to go here. Lee and Phod who are glad those animals don't live in our woods!
