Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and maybe share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week's guest can be a little intimidating luckily, I only view him from my perch on the couch. However, our trail camera has caught him up close and personal more than a few times!
This is Harlan the Eastern Red Tailed Hawk. You may remember seeing him before on Nature Friday as he has been stopping by the backyard fountain for awhile now.
His wing span can be as much as 4.5 feet (1.4 meters) long!
That's like a foot longer than I am!
Luckily I am much better dressed, heavier and stay inside when Harlan is around.
Harlan really enjoys the cool water of our fountain.
The pawrents say he also enjoys the doves the feeders and fountain attract!
We were amazed to see just how often Harlan stops by our fountain. In fact, we have so much film footage, you will most likely be seeing Harlan on more than one Backyard Wildlife Wednesday in the future!
Here is a video of a few of his visits
Feel free to also view the video HERE, on our YouTube Channel
I am sure that Harlan wishes he could be as cool as I am, especially since I am inside in the A/C BOL!!
What kind of Cool Nature are you seeing this week??
Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE to go to our Hoppity Page.
Harlan is a fine fellow - we could watch him all day.
ReplyDeleteBut of course Rosy, he is not a cool as you are.
Happy Nature Friday!
oh hello Harlan... you are beautiful!!! and what ginormous wings... it would be difficult to enter a car or a door ;o))
ReplyDeleteHarlan looks happy in your backyard. Rosy is looking very stylish with sunglasses and hat! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Harlan wonderful! Have you seen him carry off any small critturs?
ReplyDeleteMama has witnessed a squirrel snatching...and a few dove nappings. Harlan is a messy eater and tends to leave feathers everywhere!
DeleteHarlan is a very handsome guy and see lots of his family members in our area!

Harlan is one fine gentleman and it is most neighborly of you Miss Rosy to provide him with fresh water and a special rest stop ... enjoy your bird watching!
ReplyDeleteHe blends into the landscape pretty well. We are drowning in rain and more rain, thankfully it hasn't been very warm either but the heat is coming in a few days. You look super cool ;)
ReplyDeleteEXCELLENT video of Harlan. wow! he is beautiful and he could pick you up I think. good idea to stay in the AC to look cool and you sure do look COOL.. We have hawks similar to this one at Bray Park and they are about 2 foot tall. we have one that used to come here but we think he moved on because he ate most of the birds. I am loving the view of your fountain and it wild life
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video! It's amazing to see that hawk so close up. We love your trail cam videos of your fountain.
ReplyDeleteHarlan could fly for Southwest airlines with his wing span. He is a handsome fellow from afar.
ReplyDeleteROSY NO ONE IS AS COOL A YOU. I LOVE YOUR STRAW HAT AND FOSTER GRANTS
HUGS AUNTY C
Charlee: "Normally we like birds, but that one scares us a little."
ReplyDeleteOona: "Not Oona! Oona would take that bird on! In the dark! While it was asleep! LIKE A NINJA!"
That is quite the majestic looking bird but yes, inside is the best option when he is around!
ReplyDeleteThank you for featuring Handsome Harlan and your own sweet self, too. Also, thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your cool bird friend with us/
ReplyDeleteLove the hawk! Have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you say Harlan enjoys the doves, do you mean he plays with them? XOXO Xena
ReplyDeleteLucy: I think Rosy means he eats them.
Xena: *shudder* Stay inside, Rosy!
