December Birdies on Christmas Card Nature Friday

Aloha and Happy Friday!!!
You might think, by my attire, that we  might be doing something trawpical today. But really, I just wanted to add some trawpical howliday flair while we looked at a couple of birds that have moved into our backyard for the cooler months.

The bird Mama and I like the most is the Male Northern Flicker. He is very skittish, and hard to get a picture of, but we all know the Mamarrazzi...they NEVER give up BOL!

His girlfriends like to visit the fountain almost every morning with the robins(probably to catch up on the birdy gossip)!

We love the black "necklace" the flicker wears along with its rosy cheeks and speckled body!

Such a pretty bird, don't you think?? They are a member of the woodpecker family!

...and speaking of woodpeckers...

Mama and I caught this guy at the feeders  the other day!

Mama thinks he is either a Ladder Back or a Hairy woodpecker! We watched him for 10 minutes or so and he let us get pretty close to him.

The little guy on the bottom right is most probably a white breasted nut hatch.
He is pretty nutty...he likes to hop around, upside down on the bottom of the suet feeders...
Silly little guy!

OH WAIT! I almost forgot, today is also Christmas Card Day!

We  are  wishing all our pals a Very Happy
Pawliday Season!

Show us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see the link below, click HERE  to go to our Hoppity Page.

  1. Hi Rosy!
We love your tropical Santa hat, and the Northern Flicker is such a fine looking bird. But (don't say this in his hearing) we do think the robins you see in the UK are prettier than your US version.
    Toodle-oo!

  9. We love seeing the birdies you have in your yard. That fountain you have will keep them coming as long as it doesn't freeze up. You look so cute in your tropical Christmas outfit, Rosy.

  11. Black and white with a touch of red is my favorite color scheme is really pretty. You see them here quite a bit I have not seen a woodpecker exactly like the other one I've seen some similar but not exactly like that. Merry Christmas to all of you and we hope Santa can find you in your new home

  13. You sure have some pretty birdies in your yard. We have some similar ones here in WNY: the yellow shafted flicker, and the downy woodpecker.

It looks like you're all ready for Christmas! Chester loves the squeaky toys.

  16. Wow, your Mom is so smart about knowing what kind of birds live in your yard. And that's a very pretty card. Our Mom was planning on doing a card with us all on it, but it's getting late and she hasn't even figured out what to do. She suddenly got extra paid work, and she has put the cards on "hold." We think hold is going to end up not at all this year. *pout* Chia, Lucy, Riley and Xena
