Jakey here this week from our very own backyard this week on Nature Friday!
As you can see, we have had a banner Rhododendron season here on the North Coast of California. I have spent a bunch of time making my rounds to the different Rhodie bushes to make sure they are doing well(and making sure they are well watered BOL!). You will never guess what I found while taking closer look at at one of the bushes!
A SPIDER!!!
What the what????
Not just any spider either...it was a white
CRAB SPIDER!!
Crab spiders hide in the plant leaves(sometimes wrapped in their silk) and surprise their prey! I think he was in the middle of making his(or her, I didn't check) hiding place when I pointed him out to Mama!
Rhodies have lots of little nooks and crannies and must be a great home for Crabby Spider to live!
Mama says he will make the yard safer from little flitty flying bugs, and we should just let him be. Well, as long as he stays out of the house that is!
We always love finding nature right in our own backyard!
We always love finding nature right in our own backyard!
What kind of critters do you have in your backyard?
Show
us your nature! It can be flowers, your current weather, a scene out of your window, or maybe a
picture from a vacation, walk or other journey! Any kind of nature picture will do! If you don't see a link below, click HERE
to our Hoppity Page
true! our back yards are full of nature too... and we never saw a white spider, isn't that amazing how much new and interesting things live directly in front of our noses?
ReplyDeleteEeeuw, a white spider. We mostly get snails in our back garden. And seagulls.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.

ReplyDeleteI am sure there are all sorts in the garden behind the Hutch - but we just don't get the weather for me to go exploring! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx (the linky worked for me this week!)
Your Rhodies are beautiful, Jakey, and that crab spider is very cool!
ReplyDeleteHopefully we are the only critters in the backyard...well squirrels and rabbits, but those don't really count. Lots of pretty flowers you guys have.
ReplyDeleteJakey is so cute.Nice set of photos btw What do animals eat?
ReplyDeleteOH MY that must have been a shock... he/she sure is a weird looking spider and i am happy to say i have never seen one. i am not a fan of spiders but do like that they eat bugs.... i am with you, stay out of the house... today we showed our backyard avocoda tree that we want gone
ReplyDeleteSometimes some birdies fly in our yard, but they always have to leave in a hurry when I go out to say hello! We have a family of geckos that live on our porch roof too. Momma chats with them when I go out for my evening potty.
ReplyDeleteOur mom agrees that any spider that is outside is allowed to enjoy life but if they creep inside they won't last long. You sure found an interesting spider Jakey. Your rhodies are beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteGood find Jakey. I've never seen one of those spiders for real. I'm not a fan of spiders either. I don't mess with them, but I don't want them messing with me either.
ReplyDeleteYou're a good watch pup, Jakey.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your peeps. ♥
Jakey your back yard is most beautiful but your Presence Makes it Breathtaking!!
ReplyDeleteLove your hat and scarf and all the pretty blooms.
I have never in my entire life (and I'm older than dirt) heard of a white spider much less one that is crabby. Amazing. My friend send me a photo of a critter in her yard. I'm using that next Friday.
Hugs Cecilia
We have a few spiders but fortunately, not too many bugs.
ReplyDeleteHi Jakey! That spider looks scary. Mommy is disappointed in our rhody. It's supposed to bloom in the spring (it did) and summer (not yet) and fall. She's not killing it yet. We have squirrels and birds and bunnies and moths and butterflies and wasps and bees and mosquitoes and lizards and even a snake in our backyard. Xox Xena and Lucy
ReplyDeleteYour background flowers are bootiful! And I love that white crab spider, even if white is a touch creepy.
ReplyDeleteWe have flies...and mosquitoes....and spiders--lots of redback spiders that are venomous. But they don't bother us, and as long as they stay outside they can eat as many flies as they want. We also have bees sometimes and little skinks in summer. Oh, and the green tree frog that lives in our water tank.
ReplyDeleteSuch nice flowers you have in your yard. We liked seeing that special spider too. (As you probably know, my humans are all science geeks who love to see spiders and bugs.)
ReplyDeleteWe have never seen or heard of those crab spiders. Mom hates spiders, but if we find one, we will tell her to just look the other way.
ReplyDeleteAs for our flowers, we will show you tomorrow why all the flowers on Mom's penta and lantana have been disappearing.

Happy Nature Friday!!! Thanks for sharing your backyard with us Jakey. Crab spiders are pretty cool looking. We have a bunch of critters behind our office. We have a wooded area so we get to see lots of insects and squirrels. Have a fantastic weekend.

What beautiful flowers Jakey! Love the spider.
ReplyDeleteYou sure look handsome Jakey and your flowers sure are pretty! We don’t care for that spider though. For the first time ever there was a deer in our backyard!
ReplyDeleteA crab spider? What hideous, twisted bit of engineering caused that? Beware!
ReplyDeleteOMD, I have never seen one of those!!!! and, guess what? Ma didn't close the page screamin' and flailing her arms ~ don't knows why, she hates spiders! Maybe cause it is a purty color. or maybe it doesn't look like the black widow her brudder chased her with when she was a wee lass.
ReplyDeleteAnyhu, your flowers are FABulous Jakey!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
What an interesting spider you found there Jakey! Even mom was able to look at him BOL!

The colors of your rhododendrons are gorgeous! We could do without seeing any spiders though, but that one was kind of interesting since it was white (and as long as it keeps its distance, LOL).

I found a crab spider on a flower this week too!!!!! Very very cool! I didn't know what kind of spider it was until you told me! I love your rhododendrons (now that's a hard one to spell!). They are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWe have butterflies! Well, we had at least one, but I ate it!
