Happy Kitschy Travel Tuesday

Kitsch - art, objects, or design considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.

Many of you who have been visiting for awhile might remember Mama is a bit obsessed with all things Route 66. Even though she has been to Williams more than once, she and Daddy enjoyed a couple of nice strolls around the Historic Route 66 "strip".

Williams, Arizona welcomed Route 66 in 1926 as a dirt road. Don't worry though, we didn't have another "Monument Valley Incident", the road was paved soon after it was built. BOL! The portion of 66 running through Williams was the last to be "bypassed" in 1984(when Interstate 40 was completed).

This is where Mama and Daddy ate dinner one night downtown along Route 66. Speaking of downtown Williams, it is named on the National Register of Historic places! It is known for(and we can vouch for this) lots of historic buildings, neon signage and even live music!

I bet they have good burgers too!
Yum!

There is no shortage of fun and kitschy things to do Along all of Route 66 and Williams has its share.
The pawrents found two Museum/Gift shops they really enjoyed.

Both had a great selection of Route 66 kitsch, old cars and even gas pumps!

Instead of telling you about all the things they saw, here is a slide show for anyone wanting to see some fun Route 66 Kitsch!

As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE

Route 66 is pretty fun, and we hope to see some of the north eastern parts of it next year, but we are always up for some fun in Williams, too!

Have you ever driven on Route 66??

  11. Lulu: "Our Dada told us to ask if you saw Kookie and if he lent you his comb, but then he looked Kookie up and discovered Kookie was from 77 Sunset Strip, not Route 66. At least he was only off by eleven."
Java Bean: "Ayyy, and hundreds of miles!"
