Nature Friday - Michigan Finale

Jakey here today to share the Michigan Nature Friday Finale with you! While in Michigan, the pawrents went with family on a nice hike in Hartwick Pines State Park!

Unlike the old growth Redwood Trees we have here,  Hartwood Pines has pretty old growth Pine Trees. During this hike though, you'll see Mama wasn't quite as interested in the trees as usual.

You see, there had been a few days of rain and the forest was pretty thick and dark making it the perfect place for mushrooms.Well, you know Mama, like the moths and butterflies on the last Michigan NF post, the theme of this post should be Mushrooms in Michigan!!

Starting with the underside of a group of Oyster Mushrooms growing on a tree.

Hoof Tinder Fungi on a fallen tree.

Mama said when they arrived at the Lodge it was around 90F degrees.  Four days later, when they took this hike, it was around 65F degrees, I guess this leaf thought Autumn was on its way!

Mama says this was the first of two baffling fungi finds!
Mama couldn't even get their identifications on the interwebs. If anyone knows what this is, please let us know in the comments. For now, we'll call it the mystery fungi #1

But wait, there's more that just mushrooms, right Mama??

Here we have a cute little toad....

...and a pretty moth!

Which brings us back to mushrooms and Mystery Fungi #2. Not so much the little orange, "eyelash cup" mushrooms surrounding it, but that big blob of fungi growing on the lichen.
Looks like...wellll, what a bear might have left in the woods, BOL!

Lastly, we have a pretty orange waxcap mushroom growing in the soggy  remains of a soggy fallen log.

Thanks for joining me for a Virtual Michigan Mushroom hike through Hartwood Pines State Park(aka the Mushroom Capital of the World).

Here's wishing everyone a Fungi-Free weekend!!

More Michigan Nature - Around the Lodge

Welcome to another edition of Nature Friday!
Zoooom!!! That is how quick the past week has gone, don't you think? Today, I have the second installment of the natural side of the pawrents trip to Michigan. Let's peruse all the fun things they found around the Lodge where they relaxed and enjoyed time with family!

The Lodge at Bear Creek is located right outside of Grayling, Michigan near the Au Sable River.

Most of the nature Mama and Daddy found was down this path...

 ...along Bear Creek!
Luckily they did not run into any bears down here,
but they did see some other fun creatures.

Like little Kermit the frog, he's a pretty cute little guy, do you think he would turn into a Handsome Prince if gave him a little kiss??

They also saw this pretty moth...

In fact, Mama saw LOTS of pretty moths, but I told her she could only pick one more moth picture to show....

She may have cheated...cause there are actually THREE moths in this picture.
I let her slide though....mostly because she bribed me with extra treats!

Here is a look at the creek in the other direction!

They made their way back up the path to the Lodge so they could enjoy the sunset.

On their way, Daddy pointed out this beautimous blue butterfly!

What a beautimous sunset they saw.....

Of course, all this nature would have been more beautimous if I was there!

We hope everyone gets out and enjoys a bit of nature this weekend!!

Snow on My Birthday

This is One!
That's right, last Sunday was my very first birthday!!!

To celebrate, Rosy, Mama and Daddy took me to the Mountains to celebrate!

There were lots of good sniffs.

The weather was pretty warm(for the mountains)when we first got there and we went for a nice long hike in the campground.  Daddy even took me on my first swing!!

When I woke up on the morning of my birthday I saw white stuff falling from the sky!!

What the what???

Mama told Rosy and I all about the snow. How it usually happens in the Winter, but we were lucky and were seeing some in the Spring!!!

It settled on the ground, and even on the trees!!

We even got to go for walkies in the Wint...ummm, I mean Snowy Spring Wonderland!

It was so quiet and peaceful and the sun even came out for a little while.

It did sure was pretty...and pretty cold too!

Here is a short movie Mama put together of my First Birthday, including me enjoying a birthday treat!

You can also watch it HERE, on YouTube

Snow is nice, but next year I think I want to try someplace Trawpical for my birthday.
