A Walk at Town Lake

This Saturday Mama took me on a walkie at one of our favorite places, Town Lake!!!

Guess what the almost first thing I saw was????

SQUIRREL

Mama look...a SQUIRREL!!!

Squirrel-pic1
Mama took me for a closer look and, of course, once it saw it was ME it took off running up a tree

Squirrel-Treed
Where it held on so it would not fall into my clutches....smart squirrel!

State-Capitol
Here is a far away shot of our State Capitol building. Austin is the Texas State Capitol in case any puppy didn't know.

Agilities
Here I am showing my stair climbing abilities.

Leash-Pulling-Proof
Here I am showing why I can't go "string free" in the "String free" part of the park. I have this ummmm thing about squirrels (just in case you may not have noticed) and I chase them no matter WHAT Mama says. Usually I am very well behaved, EXCEPT when there are squirrels about. Mama is afraid I will chase one across the busy road...so until I learn to stay and come EVEN when there is a squirrel, I will have to stay on my string....SIGH

Tutles
There are even turtles at Town Lake.

Turtle-Rock
He is swimming to Turtle Rock. Mama says this is like Fraggle Rock...but different!

Bye-Bye-Machine---Xterra
Before I knew it we were back at the Bye Bye Mobile and had to go back home to see Daddy and Bilbo. Mama made a movie of our walkie if you want to watch.

Walkie at Town Lake Movie:

Note from the Mama:
A lot of you asked about Bilbo and walkies...Bilbo would much rather stay home than go a) bye bye and/or b) for a walk. Bilbo is a home body. I do force talk him into going for walks in the neighborhood and he is a very good walker when I get him out, but he stresses out VERY easily and really worries more about getting back home more than anything else.

Also, thank you to everyone for your support on the no job thing. I really appreciate it and am enjoying my time at home to catch up on household and crafty things...OH and of course keeping Dory and Bilbo up on what all their friends are up to!

  1. What a great walk!! I think it is wonderful that you try to hard to eradicate those nasty tree rats. Rugby thinks they are ok, and he won't chase them, even if I try really hard to convince him to!

Silly Bilbo, he just doesn't know what he is missing out on! More fun for you then, Dory!

  2. Very nice walk, Dory, for you and your Mom! I am surprised you have to have your string on because you would chase those squirrels. What would you do if you caught one?

  3. Oh, you naughty girl! I wanted to reach into the video and teach those squirrels a lesson. Yup, I get it why yu can't be off leash. I wouldn't trust myself under such circumstances either.

  4. Hi guys,

Fun walk!! We went on a walk too... but neglected to bring our camera. It's gloomy and raining again today so it's unlikely that we will be able to get out and take some walking photos!

  7. You lucky girl! How we'd love some nice walkies like that, if everything would just thaw out/dry up! Maybe next month... I like how you refer to "the string" BOL. Don't think I'll ever be string-free in public, except fot in the show ring! Mom says I can't be trusted ANYTIME! At least you just have the thing with squirrels!!

  8. Mommy likes this post. She used to work in the Archive's Bldg, years ago when she lived in Austin. And misses it a lot!

Also, we are glad that your mommy is home so we can visit with you more often. It's fun!

  9. Thanks for sharing your walk with us. I was hoping to go on a walkie this weekend but it was still too cold. It was nice to see some green grass and every buddy out enjoying the nice day. We still have lots of snow on the ground. But mom says Spring is only 18 days away. Yay!

It's too bad your dog park doesn't have a fence to keep the doggies safely inside.

  10. Hi Dory my word you had one fine walk...are you sure you weren't in a Zoo? Lots of animals and reptiles about. We are glad your ground is no longer WHITE!!! Go job keep the squirrel treed best for both of you that he stays high.
We are sorry Bilbo doesn't like walks too far from home but we believe all should do what makes them happy...and he is happy.

  12. Dory, we have the same bye bye mobile....only I think mine is the older version. SHE likes it for hauling dogs as its easy to keep clean. We need to go squirrel hunting...er...walking together, we could probably circle up on one side while one of us distracted them on the other....er...took their picture, I mean.

  14. Hi, Dory!

What nice pictures! Bilbo must have liked the pictures, too, even though he didn't go.

That sure was a nice walk - took us away from the snowscape we have here which is sort of clearing and we feel spring in the air (it's only 19 days away).

Hope you're having a lovely day!

  15. Squirrels and turtles - what a fun adventure for you, Dory!!! We don't ever get to be off leash outside of our fenced yard, Mom is the same way with us, but better safe than sorry. Thanks for the video, we loved watching you and Mom stroll.

  18. What a fun day for an outing. Great walk too.:) I think Sierra would rather stay at home too but Mommy and Daddy say she needs her exercise. Bilbo will have to let Sierra in on his secret for not having to go on walks.:)

  25. Hey Bilbo! Who knew we had so much in common? I don't really like walkies either because there are just too many scary things out there in the big world and I get very stressy. Of course that doesn't keep me from howling when PeeWee goes out. Hehehe.

  30. I LUVED going on your walk with you, Miss Dory. Thank you so much for taking me along. I knows what you mean about those darn squirrels. It's very, very important to keep your eyes on 'em. You just know those evil little critters would try to take over the world if it wasn't for us.

  32. Hi Dory,

Your walkie looks like lots of fun. The video was great because it was like being with you.
We can see why you have to stay on your string when squirrels are around. The squirrels are probably happy that you are too.

Sorry to hear about your Mom's job but at least she can spend more time with you.

  38. Dory, you are very lucky to get to walk around Town Lake. It's neither close or practical for me. With the number of people my girls would encounter we would never get any actual walking done. No I'm afraid we have to stick to the less interesting North Austin neighborhood park.

  39. Looks like you had a great walk with many cool discoveries ;)

  40. that's funny: Loki's an "at home" boy too, like Bilbo. But because he's so talented, (insert tongue into cheek), i force him to go places. he stresses in the car but once we're at the destination, he's so cool and fine. the car stress drives me insane! Juno is perfect, like Dory... like all girls!
