Backyard Nature Friday

Sunny here guest hosting this week's Nature Friday!

This week, I want show you the rhododendron blooms we've had in our backyard through out Spring.
Believe it or not, they started blooming back in early April and we still have a few of our bushes still blooming!!

Let's take a look!

It seems different shades of pink are the "in" color for Rhodies this year.

Here we have a group of mostly white blooms, with very pale pink edges.

I like the curly edging on these blooms, and the pretty polka dots on some of the petals.

When walking in your backyard, it's always good to look down, and not just to find flower petals and leaves to chew on!

Slugger, the banana slug, lives under the deck and comes out to visit on foggy mornings.

When have warmer weather we get visitors to like Lizzie, the (Shasta Alligator)Lizard who likes to lay in the grass when the sun is shining! Sally, the garden snake, will probably make an appearance soon, but we haven't seen her yet.

He's not like a REAL alligator, right Mama?
No? Whew!

Anyway...let's get back to our rhododendrons

Pretty bright pink rhodies with small blooms....

...and some bigger light pink blooms with curly edges!

 Little pink Rhody buds....

 Turn into pretty pink blooms!!

Let's round off this rhododendron fest with this beautiful purple blooms!!

Thank you for joining me in the backyard this week, I really enjoyed showing you our
pretty rhododendrons and scary, I mean, interesting other creatures!

I hope every buddy a pawsome weekend full of Nature!!

  2. Hi Sunny! Thank you so much for showing us your splendid backyard rhododendrons. We have rhoddies a-plenty here in Scotland too, but awesome banana slugs and scary alligator lizards not so much. Which is probably a good thing, as early in the morning Gail can sometimes get confused about her breakfast items and I would hate to see her trying to slice up slugger and add him to her muesli...
    Toodle pip!

My word, Sunny, what bounteous beauty you have to share today - including the critters who visit! Your banana slug is way more attractive than any we have around here and I do love a lizard. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  6. Your rhododendron are so pretty, Sunny and so are you! Those creepy crawly things are kind of neat but we're glad that thing isn't really an alligator.

  10. Your rhododendrons are just gorgeous, and we love your wreath of flowers on your head. So pretty.

Nice to meet Lizzie and Slugger. We must say they are both pretty ugly, but they serve a good purpose. We hope Mrs. Sally Snake doesn't make an appearance.

  11. Beautiful. I don't know if I could make friends with a slug.

  12. Your Rhodos are gorgeous! We used to live on the west coast and we loved them. Where we live, in the mountains and almost a desert, they don't grow. Thanks for sharing yours with us.

  14. The flowers are super pretty. Slugs are weird and don't really look real, they look like they are made of rubber. Thankfully we have never seen a snake in our yard. Mom is terrified of snakes and if we see one, she probably won't go into the yard anymore, it is that serious.

  15. OMD, we don't have any banana slugs or alligator lizards around here. How cool is that! XOX Xena

  16. Sweet Sunny...you're as pretty as your rhododendrons. Wow...the colors on those flowers-so beautiful. Umm, we took a vote and decided (unanimously, BTW) that you can keep that banana slug. Mom got the willies just looking at him! 😱

  17. Well, you're looking like America's Next Top Model there, Sunny! You have some amazing flowers in your yard too. Slugger is sure colorful. The slugs around here are rather gray and boring, and chew holes in the hostas.
