YAM Aunty has the closest guess so far. She guessed Death Valley or Arizona.
We are staying in California close to Death Valley.
Here's a big hint: The park we're heading to is named after a special kind of succulent!

DeleteGail and I have been carefully studying her 1988 vintage Rand McNally road atlas of the USA, but we can't find any park named after succulents and near Death Valley. So we'll have to go with the Weims' suggestion.
