I'm keeping Mama company in Cece while she cleans up and packs everything up for a short weekend getaway.
This road trip isn't as much about the destination, as it is about the journey. For the first time this camping season, Mama, Daddy, Sunny and I will all be in Cece! It should be a nice scenic ride into southwest Colorado, I can't wait to tell you all about it!
I sure am thankful for CeCe getaways where we can all travel together!
Happy Nature Friday! Today, we are back to show you some of the natural beauty in Bonito Hollow RV Park!
When you first drive into the park you drive over this cool bridge....
Below it is the Bonito River!
It is really moving fast because, as the weather has been warming up, all the mountain snow is melting and feeding into all of the local rivers!
We really enjoyed the River Park play area! Mama called it whimsical because of all the wood carved mushrooms, natural wooden benches...and the very cool little bridge!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I sure hope this is a "troll free" bridge!
Here is a closer look. The river runs right behind the park. We followed a trail that follows along for the river for a bit too!
Although we didn't get to see the sunrise because of the mountains, the skies were still very pretty.
...and they stayed blue all weekend(but it was still pretty chilly).
We sure did have a nice time at Bonito Hollow, it is always nice to spend family time together!

We had a great weekend visiting Bonito Hollow RV Park.
Brace yourself, because we know it's strange, but Mama didn't take that many pictures on this trip as usual. Luckily, most of the pictures she did take were of her beautiful and well behaved pups.

Bonito Hollow RV Park is located in Alto, New Mexico. This is about 3 hours Southeast of Albuquerque. We once again traveled with Mama in the Jeep behind Daddy in CeCe.
(NEWSFLASH: This month we are ALL going in CeCe for an overnight stay in Southern Colorado)
We stopped halfway for a little walk and so Sunny could bark at the people in the Rest Area

We got to the RV Park pretty early on Friday and got CeCe all setup for the weekend.
I, Rosy scoped out the critter situation, while Daddy checked his work peemail.
Then it was time to get out and explore the park!!
Mama and Daddy really enjoyed the park because it was quiet and relaxing. WE really liked the park because there were a TON of great smells! We didn't "see" any actual critters...but their pee(and poop)mail was ALL over! Mama and Daddy were busy trying to get Sunny not to eat it...and me(Rosy) not to roll on it....so there are no pictures. But there were horses, deer, bunnies and maybe even bears nearby!
Of course, Mama let me take pictures with the FAKE bear...
....and the local Native American was super friendly and let Sunny pose with him.

This trip, we got to stay in CeCe all by ourself!
Mama and Daddy joined their RV club for
Dinner at a local restaurant....
We mostly snoozed!
When they got back to Cece we watched TV and snuggled until bedtime!

Sunny: It was a dark and stormy night when we rolled into Cuervo...
Rosy: SUNNY! It was actually a nice bright afternoon. Mama just did spooky things to the pictures to make them
look a little more menacing.

Unlike many ghost towns located off the beaten path, Cuervo is easy to find. The small abandoned town is located along Interstate 40 between Santa Rosa and Tucumcari.
Cuervo(CUHR-voh) means Raven in Spanish. We should have known this because this scary Raven met us at the stop sign entering the town. *shudder*
The town was founded in 1901 when the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf railroad was expanding from the panhandle of Texas to central and eastern New Mexico.
Unfortunately, the railway decided to change plans and used both Tucumcari and Santa Rosa for their
main delivery routes.
The town had the chance to grow when Route 66 was built through their town, but before it had a chance to really prosper...
Interstate 40 was built and Cuervo never established itself as a tourist destination.
It was then most residents fled the area for better prospects.
Believe it or not, although the town is now un-incorporated(it's post office closed in 2011), there are still 58 residents that call Cuervo home. We saw one auto repair shop/junkyard that looked like someone might have lived in, but that was about it. We didn't meander through the dirt roads though, because Cuervo is known for some pretty creepy "non-ghost" related incidents.
This is the former Catholic Church of Cuervo. You might notice it has a new roof, which we thought was very interesting. After some research we fund out it was most likely built to keep people out. We aren't going to get into particulars, but if you search Cuervo, NM church incident, you will find some pretty disturbing "non-ghost" information that we didn't know about until researching this post.
As most of you know, most humans are much scarier than their ghosts.
