As Rosy mentioned last week, Mama and Daddy went for the occasional "dog-free" afternoon adventures while we were on vacation.
Apparently, dogs aren't allowed on the trails of Rocky Mountain National Park. Luckily, our RV park was humungous and Mama and Daddy always wore us out took us for long walks before they left.
We did over hear them talking about a few of their adventures though....
Today, we are going to share some of the pictures and background of their Holzwarth Historic Site adventure.
John Holzwarth , a German Immigrant, came to Granby in 1917 with his family.
The Holzwarths made a living doing anything they could. This included lumber milling and even cutting ice from Grand Lake to sell to locals for refrigeration. Eventually though, they opened a lodge
The lodge eventually became the Never Summer Ranch, one of the first "dude ranches". The Ranch was in operation until the mid 1970s when it was absorbed into Rocky Mountain National Park.
The ranch is located in a beautiful valley on the eastern side if Rocky Mountain National Park.
Boy, the scenery is almost as pretty as the view out CeCe's window!
The ranch buildings are nestled in the valley forest
Can you imagine the campfire stories they told back then?
Not all the buildings are open to the public. National Park Rangers call some of them home while stationed at the park.
You can read more about The Holzwarth family and the history of their time in the park HERE
Here is a short slide show Mama put together:
You can also watch it HERE, on our YouTube channel!
Thanks for joining us on another vacation adventure.
Next week we'll take a little break from the Rocky Mountains while we let Mama show you some scary balloon pictures and tell you about the Albuquerque Balloon Festival!
We are joining Sandee at Comedy Plus for the
Happy Tuesday Blog Hop this week!
wow that was interesting, thanks fort the tour... hmmm... maybe only dogs who have humans attacked to a walking string are not allowed there?

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic place, and I love that some of the buildings remain inhabited. This ensures upkeep! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
if we had billions of dollars, as in won the powerball, we would have a ranch jsut like this with log cabins to live in. and fire pits with benches and all these magnificent trees. that tiny cabin in the first photo would be my choice of a She Shed, with internet service, sound proofed and no one allowed but me. sorry you did not get to visit. these photos are among my favorites of your trip... I love mountains and sky and trees and cabins.. where are the cowboys?
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful places you visit! A bit of funny though, if we may: our "eyes" read the teaser headline as HOGWARTH and we were all prepared to read about some Harry Potter stuff ... sigh!
ReplyDeleteAh well ... who knows, maybe CeCe will be traveling there another time?
Mom gets so frustrated when there are no dog signs. Oh well, you girls had a nice nap and your parents saw some nice old cabins and forest areas. It's nice you have your big RV to hang out in when they are gone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great spot but such a shame that you girls didn't get to see it all with your peeps too. I"m in on sitting around the campfire with stories and smores!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to visit with such beautiful scenery. You two look very cute in your fall outfits.
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Hogwarts? You went to Hogwarts! Wow! I thought there would be more wizards and stuff though."
ReplyDeleteLulu: (whispers in Bean's ear)
Java Bean: "Never mind!"
Nieces Rosy and Sunny,

Tell mom I loved her video. The music was perfect too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place. I would have loved to have tagged along for real.
You two are most adorable.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to you both and my best to your peeps. ♥
Very cool….but we think dogs should be allowed to visit too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pictures so we could enjoy your vacation. I never realized you have white paws. It looks like you are wearing sandals and need a tan on your fett.
ReplyDeleteYou mean your folks walked you so much they wore you out BEFORE they went on long walks on dog-free trails? Wow, they must be in super good shape! At least they brought back nice pictures for you and us to see. We want to see the inside of those log cabins, though, to determine if they're cozy to sleep in, BOL! XOX Xena and Chia
