Arty here today to tell you all about Day Two of our Road Trip!!
I awoke nice and early, you know like 2:30 am, and was ready to get going!! Mama and Dory said it was WAY too early tho, so after getting a drink of water I went back to sleep until 6am. Then it was time to wrangle the girls out of bed and get ready to go!
Dory, flashy beast alert!! |
Mama got us dressed first, and took us out for a short morning walkie.
I'll just keep you company while you get ready, Mama! |
After we got back I decided to eat a bite or two of breakfast. While I was eating, Dory kept Mama company while she took a shower and got ready.
Don't worry Dory, she won't turn the water on. Right, Mama??? |
Then Mama thought it would be cute to put us in the spa tub for a photo shoot. Sometimes, you just have to humor the Mamas, right??
All ready to go back here, Mama!! |
Finally we were ready to hit the road!! Unknown to us, Mama had recently downloaded an app for her iPhone that tells her where EVERY LIGHTHOUSE IN THE USA is. As soon as we realized this, along with the fact we were driving along the ocean the whole way home, we KNEW we were in for a day of silly lighthouses!!
Yaquina Bay Lighthouse |
This lighthouse was very close to our hotel, and Mama stopped here to drink her coffee and eat some breakfast before hitting the road!
Rocky Coastline |
This part of the Oregon coast is famous for it's beautiful scenery along Route 101!!
Walkie Time! |
We stopped at Heceta Lighthouse for our big morning walkie!
Let's go THIS way!! |
The trail was just a little over a mile (1/2 of it up hill) to the lighthouse, so we knew it would be great exercise for all of us, and not too much for Miss Dory!
Beautiful Views |
Such beautiful coastline views along the way!
Hey Arty, I think there is a squirrel down here!! |
There were lots of good smells and very interesting peemails to read!
That sure is a big lighthouse, Mama!! |
Finally we made it to the top of the hill and saw the very cool
Heceta Lighthouse!!
Mama, you better have treats!! |
We made our way back down the hill and posed for another photo shoot before hitting the road again!
Umpqua River Lighthouse |
Before we knew it (there might have been a short nap or two), Mama was pulling over at the next lighthouse!
Mama has visited this lighthouse with Daddy before, so she just hopped out and took a quick picture and we hit the road again!!
Cape Arago Lighthouse |
Mama drove and drove to find this lighthouse. The road that led to it was blocked off, lucky for us (or not) Mama has a lighthouse magnet in her head and got lucky found a place to take a picture of it! This ride taught Mama to read the information about the lighthouses BEFORE taking a one hour ride to try and find them.
Coquille River Lighthouse |
By now, it was getting to be the middle of the afternoon and we got to the next lighthouse just in time for our next big walkie! After morning clouds and fog, it turned out to be a beautimous afternoon for a walkie!
Mama...I don't even thin that is a REAL lighthouse!!! |
We had a wonderful day full of pretty scenery and WAY too many lighthouses, but we finally did make it home and were soooo tired we went right to sleep!! Lighthouses can get VERY tiring!!
Boy, road trips sure are fun

You win! We think you've visited more lighthouses in the least amount of time of everyone in Blogville! What a gorgeous drive. So much to see AND lots of places to take some great hikes. That's the kind of road trip we'd like. (Oh, we were a bit worried with the spa bath.....shiver.)
ReplyDeleteThank doG she didn't turn the water on in the tub! What beautiful scenery and such gorgeous lighthouses!
ReplyDeleteOur Moms need to get together and go on a Lighthouse tour - what is it that they love these things so much?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time you guys had! I always like to get mom up around 3-3:30 when we travel. I want to get out and see the area, but she always says we have to sleep until 5 or 6. Such a waste of time as we can sleep in the car!
ReplyDeleteI love the lighthouses... is it possible to live there? are that light houses empty or is there still a lighthouse keeper?
