Welcome to another edition of Flower Friday!! Whew, this week sure did fly by quick, don't you think??
We are seeing Rhododendron bushes like the ones above everywhere in our area.
That's right, as Arty would say, "It's Roady Dum Dum" season! Let's take a look at all the different Rhodies we have seen blooming around here so far!!
We found this Rhody bouquet bud when we were traveling in Oregon last week, I just love the pink and white coloring!!
This Rhody is one of the few that are starting to bloom in our backyard. Isn't the red beautiful!
The Rhodies in our yard are a bit sickly this year. Mama says some kind of fungus is attacking them!
This rhody bloom was along one of our walkie trails!
Peeps are crazy for Rhodies in our area and, as I mentioned, they are blooming everywhere you turn! They even have a Roady Dum Dum Parade the last weekend of April! You can click HERE to jump on the way back machine and see our 2014 post about the Rhody Parade!
Mama is working hard to figure out how to make our Rhodies feel better.
She thinks we may need to trim our Magnolia tree back to give them some more sunlight.
We are getting a few "bloom bouquets"

ReplyDeleteIn Scotland, where this introduced species is rampant in the Highlands, we call them 'rhoddies'. Beautiful in the appropriate environment, they are elsewhere considered an invasive menace, crushing native plants, and so great effort is made to restrict them to parks and gardens.

ReplyDeleteThose Rhodies are just gorgeous. We had Rhodies where I grew up as a child up in Cleveland, Ohio. Guess they are like the azaleas in the South. Fantastic pictures.

ReplyDeleteI loves Rhoddies and here at Dunoon, in Benmore Gardens, we have a hhhoooooooggggeee variety of them... as Bertie says, Scotland has a bit of a love-hate relationship with this Himalayan native. In the Himalayas, I saw the original red variety which is outstandingly beautiful... and the flowers are made into a drink which helps with altitude sickness! Don't go trying that with these though Dory darling... don't wanne be blamed for you starting to see pixies or yetis!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
wow your rhodie's are fast ... ours are still green and there is no sign of flowers... but I agree with you, they are great and it's a pleasure to watch them :o)

ReplyDeleteWhen Mom was a young girl ( like 100 years ago), she lived in a house that had a 100 foot deep backyard. Bot long sides of the yard were lined totally with those rhododendrons - all in a lovely shade of purple. But Mom says she loves the pink ones the best. Thanks for sharing all the pretty ones in your area.

Wow! What pretty flowers! We could never get those kinds of flowers to grow in our yard. But we do have lilacs. In fact, Rochester NY is called the Flower City because in May, there are lilacs everywhere, and in Highland Park every year there's a huge Lilac Festival.
