Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week, we are going to take a look at our Christmas Cactus....
We can't believe how many blooms are actually blooming.
This is the first Christmas Cactus Mama has had in about 15 years, she recieved it as a Christmas present and hopes she can keep alive after it blooms BOL!
We all are hoping this Christmas Cactus blooms every year because we all know a happy Mama gives out more treats!
Do any of you have any tips for Mama to keep her Christmas Cactus healthy?
We hope you all get out and see some nature this weekend!

ReplyDeleteI've never seen a two tone one. It's beautiful. Your Mama should have no trouble keeping it alive...she seems gifted with garden talent.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color and so many blooms! My mom pinches off new growth to keep is shapely an inbounds and doesn't overwater. Mom has had hers for 8 years now and if you kill a Christmas Cactus, I think it would have happened by now.

ReplyDeleteI had a zygocactus for thirty years - as far as I know it is still alive 13 years on from having to adopt it out to a friend in Sydney. As Duke's mum says, the occasional pruning of extraneous leaves and not over-watering, in fact I would go as far as to say let it become quite dry between waterings. I might add here that putting the water in the root tray, rather than dousing from above (at least on alternate waters) would also enhance maintenance. And you can start new plants very easily from the prunings: place them 'hinge' end into a little water for a couple of days and once roots show, set them into a pot of soil and off you go! Mom is still sad that cat bro Bert killed ours. Gramma gave it to Mom years ago and it always bloomed at Christmas but that cat could not help but chew on it until it died. It was an easy plant, just some water now and then and it flourished. Our advice, don't get a cat and it will do fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful flowers! We hope it blooms for years to come. Our mom has a black thumb so she can't offer any advice. BOL!
ReplyDeleteWow, your Christmas cactus is fabulous! We've had a bright pink one for about 20+ years. Just remember they aren't a true cactus but a succulent. Don't overwater and let them have good (but not direct) light. They should be fine and they sure improve the landscape when winter is drab.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a delight! I have no tips except don't overwater, it is a cactus, and that's because I am terrible with plants and learned the hard way.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful Christmas cactus. Our Mom is terrible with plants too, but she's good with dogs, and that's all that matters to us. XOX Xena and my pack
ReplyDeleteThose blooms are so darn pretty and so are you girls!
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Ayyy, we have some of those cactus on our fence! I don't know anything about taking care of them, though. That's Mama's job."
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Although they do seem to be a lot happier ever since Dada ran some low-flow watering heads to them. Still no flowers, though."
Chaplin: "You're both wrong. Those aren't Christmas cactus out there. They're Epiphyllum."
Lulu: "Gesundheit!"
Java Bean: "Ayyy, how would YOU know what they are, Chaplin? You never go outside."
Chaplin: "I heard Mama say the name when she was talking about how she couldn't keep them in the house on account of I would eat them."
IT IS LOVELY
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Mom has about six of those cacti. Two of them she started from shoots using a funkymethod she saw on INstagram. but our weather has been so bizarre this year that a few of them bloomed in the spring. Two have some tiny buds just starting. but it probably will be at least January before we have flowers.
