Welcome
to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and maybe share a
picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville. This week I'm going to show you some of the sights I saw while hiking the Walnut Canyon rim trail on our first vacay day. Walnut Canyon is about 10 miles west of Flagstaff AZ.
Walnut Canyon was formed from Walnut Creek(waaaay down there at the bottom of the canyon) millions of years ago. Native Americans resided in the canyon between 800 and 900 years ago. The ruins of the Native American dwellings are still there, along with some petroglyph drawings. Mama really likes the fact that only a few of the ruins(out of 300 or so) are open for viewing to preserve the Native American history.
Unfortunately, cuddly puppies like me aren't permitted on the trail to the ruins. Don't worry though, the pawrents and I enjoyed a nice nature walk around the rim trail.
So not only did we get to see these beautiful canyon views....
....we also admired the beautiful flowers like these pretty yellow flowers, along the trail.
I haven't seen Indian Paintbrush flowers before, they sure are pretty aren't they? Mama says she used to see them every Spring when she lived in Texas
...and finally,Mama's favorite, vibrant purple wildflowers!
We had so much fun on our hike. After we left Walnut Canyon we headed out for some train watching...but more on that next week!
Here is a short video view of Walnut Canyon.

ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your posts from this furbyoulush trip, Rosy! Spectacular 😍 (Taking a few minutes this morning to let folk know I'm watching!) hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx
The views are gorgeous and the flowers are so beautiful! Mom would love to see Indian Paintbrushes growing so she could get really up close with them!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were thinking we would get to go to the Grand Canyon, we figured out the place where dogs could go. It is a bummer things are so restricted but we get it with nature and all and so many people don't keep their dogs on the trails. This looks like a real pretty place to see.
ReplyDeletethe first photo of you today, sweet Rosy is the perfect SIT... good girl.. daddy looks so happy to be holding you while you view all natures glory. that is a lot of hiking trails. I assume Ms Sunny stayed home to catch up on her napping.
ReplyDeleteSuch a stunning view of that beautiful canyon and the beautiful you sweet Rosy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit. Thanks for taking us along so we could learn about its heritage.
ReplyDeleteThat canyon is certainly a spectacle, the flowers are lots of colour contrasts, and i was interested to read that native American dwellings remained after such a long time. The best photo however is you looking out over the canyon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your beautiful pictures with us.
